The Borno State Police Command reported a successful operation in defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered at the University of Maiduguri entrance on Monday. The Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident during an interview on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

According to Daso, around 9:00 a.m. on December 4, a suspicious device was observed near the main gate of the university.

The command promptly deployed the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team, which confirmed the device as a makeshift IED.

The Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) then acted swiftly, successfully diffusing the IED without causing harm to individuals or property.

Following the operation, the command took measures to ensure the safety of the area, and an investigation has been initiated to identify the culprits and their motives.

Daso encouraged residents to report any suspicious objects or individuals to the nearest security personnel to prevent potential loss of lives and property.

Many residents in Maiduguri express strong opposition to the release of Boko Haram terrorists into society.

Their concern stems from the belief that many of these individuals served as informants for the terrorists.

This sentiment has intensified following last week’s announcement by the Borno State Government, revealing that approximately 160,000 Boko Haram terrorists have voluntarily surrendered their arms.

The implications of such a mass surrender pose a significant threat to the people of Borno State.

The fear among residents is that these individuals, previously associated with a terrorist organization, might still harbor allegiances or pose potential security risks.

The delicate balance between reintegration into society and ensuring the safety of the community is a matter of ongoing concern for both the residents and the government.

The Borno State Government’s decision to facilitate the reintegration of former Boko Haram members has sparked debates about the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs and the need for stringent security measures.

As the community grapples with the challenges of balancing compassion with security, the implications of these developments continue to be a topic of extensive discussion and concern among the residents of Maiduguri.

Boko Haram boys have returned back to their coward ways, attacking soft target instead of fighting like real men in combat
