Gas-Powered Buses Arrives Lagos, Charges N200 to N400 Per Passenger
The Lagos State government has introduced a new and cheaper means of transportation for residents ahead of the Christmas celebration.
The bus named “DapoCNG Bus” began its operation in Lagos on Monday, December 4th, 2023.
However, the bus will only be operating in areas like Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Arepo, and New Garage in Berger in Lagos.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, the buses will operate ahead of the introduction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) along the axis with bus stops only in areas that include Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Arepo, and New Garage in Berger.

Speaking to the Guardian, the Commissioner told the publication that the operating hours of the buses will be between 6 am to 9 pm from Mondays to Saturdays and that transport fares on these CNG-powered buses with range between N200 to N400 maximum.

Talking about the government’s effort in ensuring the smooth operation of these buses, he noted:

“Expectations are quite high, the services are much anticipated, and the timing of the start of operations with Christmas activities at the RCCG camp much valued by commuters.”

The state’s Commissioner of Transportation has also urged those living within the Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Arepo, and New Garage in Berger axis to patronize the buses as they are convenient, safe, and affordable.

The Rise of CNG-Powered Vehicles in Nigeria
CNG-powered buses have been getting a lot of PR recently, especially following the crazy increase in the price of fuel in the country. CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is a cheaper alternative to petrol and is also noted to be more environmentally friendly. As such, some Nigerian car manufacturers (Innoson Motors) have gradually started introducing CNG vehicles to help many Nigerians reduce the cost of fueling their vehicles.

Is the commissioner trying to say BRT will be operating in Mower/ibafo axis in Ogun state?

This is an Ogun State Government initiative, which is commendable.

I learnt lagos is doing a pilot phase with Electric BRTs.

Major take is that their should be a robust public transport scheme to aid movement as transport prices might see a hike.

I'm sure an igbo man owns these buses (just like the blue rail system is owned by an igbo man). This is in continuation of igbos deveroping Ragos. If not for igbos cyclones would have been happening regularly in Ragos.

I always say it, many of you are daft. In an attempt to troll or mock people, you end up shaming yourselves as half baked dimwits.
Question is, how many of your Eastern state governors have patronized Innoson products in the last 10 years? There was almost nothing you guys didn't say about Buhari, yet, Innoson trived and flourished under his administration as the government patronized his products. Your supposed billionaires in the East do not buy from him, no wahala but na another people una go dey abuse for not patronizing him. I beggy, with time, all these una post election trauma go soon end, that way, una go stop to dey reason with una yansh.

So because Innoson assembles vehicles in Nigeria, no one has the right to buy vehicles of their choice again. There have been number of locally made products and we see people making their choices of rather buying/ordering from abroad.

Stupidity is the name given to that one who always believes everything revolves around him, without much ado, you are simply unwise.

Taxis have been using this technology in Benin City since 2011 or so. The city owned buses used to be run with the same gas till they all changed back to Diesel around Oshiomole second tenure. There is 1 CNG station along second east Circular road still working, I don't know about others in sapele road, Ugbowo Lagos road and ikpoba hill.
It cost 300k cash back then to convert, but for private vehicles they payed in installments.
I have never heard of explosion caused by CNG in Benin City.
One big advantage is that you can switch to petrol by push of a button after😊
It's only disadvantage is you will lose room in your booth that's where the cylinder is installed.
