The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede has stated that seven out of ten Nigerian students are involved in cybercrimes.

The EFCC boss made this known during a meeting with a delegation from Daar Communication PLC at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Olukoyede, according to a statement released on the EFCC official X handle, expressed concerns over the alarming rate of youth involvement in cybercrimes and called on the media to design programmes aimed at enlightening youths on the evil of the criminal activities.

“We are looking towards Daar Communications to enlighten our youths on the evils of cybercrimes. It is worrisome that 7 out of 10 students today are involved in cybercrimes.

“These are the youths we are preparing to be leaders of tomorrow. The media should not relent in enlightening them on the evils of such criminal practices.”

Olokoyede’s comment is coming weeks after the EFCC arrested 69 students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) for fraud-related offences.

People always say this and I believe it completely. Internet fraud has both good and negative impacts on a country where criminals have hijacked power with no idea what to do with it.

That comment is wrong. It can't be up to 7/10. Does it mean in a class of 200, 140 are into yahoo, including ladies? Lies. This man is a public figure and should understand that comments from people like him easily gain more local and international attention. He should stop making untrue comments like this.

He said 70% and some people here are condemning him that it it not up to that.

Now you are confirming that in your side it is even more than 70%, as you mentioned 95%.

The point is that, this is a very dangerous trend that will deprive us of quality graduates and artisans in the near future.

From the comments here so far, many are also here.

Good luck to you guys.
