TCN says 53 power projects worth N122 billion to be completed by May 2024
by Omono Okonkwo

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has said that 53 ongoing power projects worth N122 billion is to be completed by May 2024.

TCN and power distribution companies with support from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will finish up these projects that are currently being constructed across the country.

Punch reports that the projects entail the delivery of eight 150MVA power transformers, 19 1000MVA transformers, 60MVA transformers, reconductoring existing transmission lines (conductors and accessories), upgrading of the existing 132/33KV substations, and construction of 33KV line bays.

While visiting three different projects at Ojo, Isolo, and Oworonshoki Transmission stations in Lagos on December 6, Mathew Ajibade, Programme Coordinator at TCN, mentioned that once these projects are finished, they will increase the company’s ability to transport electricity by over 1,000 megawatts.

He said:

“The projects are currently being implemented through the project management office at the TCN headquarters in collaboration with both TCN field engineers and the Discos technical team. The time set for completion of the projects is May 2024 latest. PMO made progress with the implementation of the programme despite challenges encountered and is committed to ensuring the successful implementation.”

Tumba Tijani, who is the Assistant Director and oversees the Infrastructure Finance Office at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), clarified that the central bank provided a loan for the project in August of last year. This loan was given at a 9% interest rate.

He mentioned that a total of N85.43 billion has been given out to 53 different contractors involved in the projects. This money has been disbursed into the Advance Payment Guarantee account to help these contractors carry out their tasks.

He said:

“The CBN in continuation of its intervention in the power sector approved the sum of N122, 289, 344 for the programme Nigeria Electricity Market Stabilization Facility-3 based on the projects estimated for the identified projects.

The facility aims to resolve the transmission/distribution interface bottlenecks to improve supply to end users and unlock the unutilized generation capacity in the country,”

Why transmission?
The Minister for Power, Adebayo Adelabu, mentioned before that even though the country has handed over the responsibility of generating and distributing power to private entities, the part that handles transmitting electricity is still managed by the government.

However, this area hasn’t seen enough progress mainly because the infrastructure, such as substations, transformers, and power lines, is getting old and isn’t strong enough.

Adelabu promised that the government would focus on reorganizing and improving this infrastructure. The aim is to ensure that all Nigerians experience better and more reliable electricity supply across the country

This is highly commendable. Well done to every patriotic hardworking Nigerian and lover of Nigeria who made this milestones possible.

Mr Emefiele and President Muhammadu Buhari deserve the credit too for this decision taken last year and I am happy that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is following through with the German government and project contractors. This is how government should be.

While PDP swallowed $13 billion that vanished into thin air with no electricity, for much less the APC is not only generating but modernising the whole electricity industry.

As Dangote Refinery rolls out its production this December, import of petrol will significantly drop, the dry season farming output for wheat will complement the impact of reduction in petrol import while this electricity improvements will produce massive leap in our aggregate output and raise our exports to further shoot up our trade surplus.

The naysayers, unpatriotic elements, cyberbullies, criminal defamers and liars will neither see nor benefit from all these progress for Nigeria.

Nigeria is in safe hands of very brilliant, hardworking, competent and patriotic Nigerians. May God bless Nigeria for ever!Check my signature for free stuffs!

Ok Naa...

So far the main motives behind these projects are not all anchored on massive embezzlements.!!
(Which is obviously really difficult to prevent)

i will rather wait till the project is completed before I celebrate any news from Nigeria government, I'm tired of disappointment, the last administration promised Nigerians that we will start producing aircraft by 2024, few days left to 2024 i don't think that is happening

You are the one fooling yourself.

There is no one in the world who can turn around the country at the twinkle or an eye. The policies of 5his present government is already begining to show a positive change but IPOB cannibals hate to accept that we are begining to have a positive change.

Tinubu has his challenges but at least the economy is responding to his policies.
1.The Nigerian Stock Market is up 34.11%.
2.Our GDP is up 2.54%.
3. Oil production is up 13.40%.
4. Balance of trade is now in surplus to the time of over 52%, which is the highest in five years.
5. And most importantly, Peter Obi and Arise Peoples Party's lies are also up 100%!

No wonder there is so much pressure to quickly conclude ongoing power related jobs. Equipment are coming from several quarters and a January ending target has been set for them. Some people are cashing out bigtime!

Anytime I see any article by @freestuff,I always feel excited,it's not easy to stay positive all the time in this very conbustious, depressing and toxic environment called Nairaland.
@Freestuff like I say, although we don't agree on some other issues, but on the issue of being positive about Nigeria,I totally queue behind you.
Eledumare bless you.
Back to the matter, like my comrade mentioned, things are getting better in Nigeria. Let the Naysayers continue to wail and wallow in their depression.
I'm sure Asiwaju will get the issue of Electricity right,a man who was planning an IPP in Lagos as far back as 2006, I'm sure restructuring the Electricity sector won't be too difficult for him.
When there's light there will be productivity,I hope Government goes a step further and licence more Distribution companies,I'm sure Nigerians are fed up of these parasitic Discos that are more concerned with profiting from distributing darkness than Light.
Nigeria must succeed
