Golfers Storm Ibom Golf Club
...Laud Him On His Vision For The Game


The beautiful and serene ambience of Ibom Golf Club in Akwa Ibom State is the place to be as it hosts an International Golf Tournament as part of the celebration to mark the 61st birthday of the President of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio. Golfers and golf enthusiasts across age and gender converged to showcase their talents.

The event was formally teed open from Hole 1, by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru who felicitated Senator Akpabio on his birthday and eloquently lauded the Senator on his contribution to the beautiful game of golf in Nigeria as the golf course was designed and created during his Uncommon Transformation tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The tournament had as competitors golfers from various golf clubs which include but not restricted to, IBB International Golf Club, Abuja, Sealord Golf Club,NNS Pathfinder-Port Harcourt and the host, Ibom Golf Club. The players included Rt.(Hon.) Usenobong Akpabio, Captain Ibom Golf Club, Ibrahim AlhassanL Babayo,
Vice Captain, IBB International Golf Club, Abuja, SENATOR Emmanuel Anosike,
Fmr. Captain, IBB International Golf Club, Abuja, Rt. (Hon.) Asuquo Nana Udo, Member, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, among others.

The Starboy of the tournament, however was Lewis Dandyson, a ten year old golfer, representing Sealord Golf Club, NNS Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, who thrilled fellow golfers, caddies and spectators, with his deft swings and shots. Lewis who started playing golf at the age of three had his mother, his mentor and fellow golfer, as his caddie. His dream, he declared, is to turn pro by the age of nineteen. He further stated that he has been invited to represent Nigeria in an invitational tournament in the USA. He charged young persons to hold onto their dreams, keep the faith, trust the process and persevere to witness, in his own words, "the Uncommon Fulfillment of Uncommon Dreams". He also thanked Senator Godswill Akpabio for granting him the opportunity to compete with persons much older than he is. Indeed a star is in the making.

The event came to a closure with merriment at the club house.
