Yema Yala Devt Initiative Elects New Exco As Chief Chris Eguma Emerges Chairman

The formidable socio- development umbrella association of Yala community in the nation's capital city Abuja, Yema Yala Development Initiative (YYDI) on Sunday, December 10, 2023 elected new executive members to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years.

This is just as after the well attended peaceful and successful election, Chief Christopher Eguma emerged chairman of the reputable Yala association.

In a statement by the Publicity Secretary and Director of Communications, Ebriku John Friday, the newly elected executive members came on board after the dissolution of the previous executive members and the peaceful conduct of a fresh election held at Area 7 Garden, Garki Abuja.

It would be recalled that the distinguished three-man electoral committee was chaired by Hon. Sir John Odey. Other members are Mr Odey Thomas Otunu (Secretary) and Mr. Julius Odiko (Member). Earlier, the eleco thoroughly screened and cleared aspirants of the various officers as well as accredited 69 members to vote in the election.

Out of the 10 executive positions, three were keenly contested, while seven others emerged unopposed and returned elected.

The three offices contest for are, Chairmanship, Vice/Deputy Chairman and Treasurer.

Chief Christopher Eguma emerged winner and returned elected as Chairman of Yema Yala after polling the highest votes 38 against his opponent, Mr. Austin Akpa who scored 27 votes.

For the position of the Vice/Deputy Chairman, Ms Comfort Akobi polled 33 votes defeated her sister Ms Rose Odey who scored 29 votes, and merged winner and returned elected.

In the same vein, Mr Odama Emmanuel polled 32 votes to defeated Pastor Mrs. Mary Ogbene Oko with 28 voted and returned elected as Treasurer of Yema Yala Development Initiative

Mr Ogar Solomon Ogar - Secretary
Mr. Ohiero Ocheonehehi Friday - Assistant Secretary
Mr. Clement Alegu - Financial Secretary
Mr. Ebriku John Friday - Publicity Secretary/Director of Communications
Prince Monjock Bravo - Provost
Mrs. Agnese Ogbeche - Welfare Officer 1
Hon. Comrade Dominic Ogbeche Jack Solo - Welfare Officer

Goodwill message with huge sum for refreshment was received from the serving member of the House of Representatives representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency, Hon. Godwin Offiono (aka Goffio) who was unavoidably absent due to official assignment.

Present to observe the exercise was a friend of Hon Gabriel Bravo Oluohu and a serving House of Representatives member from Taraba State, Rt. Hon. David Abel, who also supported the election with donation of N100,000.
