Nigeria is not a joke, the second-largest economy and market capitalization in Africa undecided . Most African countries are overhyped by their media houses because they are more patriotic than ours. Kenya is currently suffering from a nationwide blackout for weeks, SA only has stable electricity in a selected part of the country, Ghana is currently faced with inflation that is even worse than ours, and Rwanda's rural community is nothing to write home about. Nigeria is not the worst it remains among the top 5 places for businesses, work and living in Africa undecided

Their brands are performing poorly in terms of sales because of cheap imports from Asia. They prefer to fold up production and concentrate on import and sell. This way pharmaceutical companies in Asia can produce under their brand and they will just import and distribute.

India and china ain't joking, they are taking over from western pharmaceutical giants. Pharmaceutical marketers in Nigeria design drugs structure and take it to India for production and this method has made the competition tough. Effective cheaper and effective variants full market

Nope.
They have best sales force around and have bulks to throw on ads and promo.

It’s just too costly to operate in Africa and the ease of doing business is not there.

Where a market is not delivering 5% of the group revenue but headaches from such market is more than 95% of the group’s headaches, you should know that Board would resolve to wind down from such market and look for alternative business model.

GSK’s branded generics are not sold under GSK’s name. They are sold under Allens & Hansbury.

Any product you see under GSK Pharmaceuticals (not GSK Consumer o), are all patented. No Indian or other local companies can manufacture them.

Panadol and co are under GSK Consumer. But all those big drugs dem, forget na imitation lo ba de o.

So your assertion is off tangent.

This is also caused by the dip in the purchasing power of Nigerian consumers. The less money they have in their pockets the more patronage Indian and Pakistan drugs get. Although their quality might be slightly off when compared to the likes of GSK, the affordability will get Nigerians buying.
This in return means bad business for GSK who have investments on ground running into billions. Makes it harder for them to compete with India or Pakistan who are already applying the distribution model GSK is about to commence.

Chai. It's time for Africa to support its pharmacists on drug development and production. Emzor, Asad, M&B etc should expand their portfolio. It's appalling that 99% of Nigerian pharmacists work as drug dispensers-something that some illiterates learn the ropes in few years. Let's dust off those research in our universities and scale them up. I remember a Prof from ABU had developed an anti malarial called Herb 25. Such innovations must be spurred

You’re right. Health is a country’s security. If you lose it, you’re good as dead. We cannot leave the health of our nation on some foreign company when we have pharmaceutical graduate everywhere. Govt and private sector should combine to research and develop drugs

Nigeria remains the largest market in Africa with the highest capital gains MTN and Multichoice can't boast of big profits without the Nigerian markets.
Most African countries are overhyped by the media because their media houses aren't like ours undecided and are more patriotic, Nigeria is not the worst in Africa but remains among the top 5 African countries for living and businesses.
If the Nigerian government can give a single-interest loan to local manufacturers with functioning local refineries for a start then our economy will be revived in no time.

That's what you said about Shoprite but it's doing better than ever after it exited Nigeria.

I find it realy disturbing that we clap for the president for seek foreign invest ,then we defend the goverment for not providing enabling enviroment for already existing investment to trive. The people who tend to question the rational behind such occurance are termed hate filled ignorant? This is why people insult you but you think its hate. No body hates you you just keep supporting what is hurting the entire country probably for personal gain or whatever reason.

Did you actually read? They are cutting production in Africa in order to distribute through a 3rd party company. So it's not like it's particular to Nigeria alone. What is you typed up there has no sense in it at all.
