See the map, it looks like the British were actually focusing on the Southern part of Africa. Then they realized the French were taking over all West Africa. In response the British started taking territories here and there including Nigeria. 1 Like

panafrican:Cameroon (Kamerun), Togo, Namibia, etc, were former German colonies that they lost due to their defeat by the allied powers during World War 1. The British and French took over the administration of those former African German colonies subsequently. Parts of Togo (some parts of the Ewe ethnicity) was merged with Eastern Gold Coast (Ghana) by the British and the rest of Togo came under French administration... Same with Cameroon, while Namibia was administered fully by the British. |
