Edo workers applaud Obaseki’s 13-month salary payment

Workers in Edo State have applauded Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on his pledge to pay workers in the State Civil/Public Service, 13-month salary.

The Edo State Government in a statement had announced that the 13th month salary promised by the governor will be paid on December 27th.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Council, Comrade Chief Odion Olaye (JP), said workers in the Edo State Civil/Public Service are grateful to Governor Obaseki for the show of love, care and compassion for their welfare.

He said, “We on behalf of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the working people of Edo State wish to put on record the unprecedented and a landmark decision of His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki to pay the Edo Worker on the 11th of December, 2023.

Olaye said the payment of December salary to the State Government workers on December 11 was exceptional, noting, “It is unprecedented and an historical reference that will remain a long time in our hearts that a sitting governor without any pressure, decided in his own volition to pay its workers on the 11th of December have set a new benchmark for the Nation.

“We therefore, want to put on record that we the workers of Edo State workers are grateful for this show of love, care and passion for our welfare. We also want to put on record the promise of His Excellency to pay us the 13th month salary in spite of the economic reality in our country. This has come like a beautiful storm that we all look forward to its manifestation.

He added, “Your Excellency, the entire workforce of Edo State has directed us, as their leaders, to express their profound gratitude for your kindness and benevolence. We also want to put on record that the beautiful ambience of our working environment has remained a reference point across the country.

The Edo State NLC Chairman assured Governor Obaseki of the support and solidarity of the workers, noting, “We express our unalloyed commitment to Your Excellency’s Administration and our resolve to remain with you in all your drive to complete your tenure strongly and have a worthy successor.

“Be assured always, Your Excellency, of the Solidarity of the Edo State Workers,” he added.

This is such a welcome development from the Edo State Government under His Excellency Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki nowadays unlike before when workers and Pensioners used to die like chickens from the fact that were either underpaid or not paid at all due to the fact that the previous administration used all their resources to empower thugs, Lions and tigers who have been sent permanently to the zoo where they belong through the votes of Edolites for PDP and Obaseki. This is why Edo People will support Ai Governance from Asue Ighodalo when voted into power because Edo State can never go backwards again. Good Governance has come to stay and it must remain in Edo State whether those evil doers like it or not. #NaGodWin ooo

What more can we say than to keep thanking our wake and see governor

A vibrant and a well motivated workforce is the falcrum of development because one can only give what he has received.
Governor Obaseki has broken records in all sphere of developmental attainment in Edo. 13 months salary is a dream come through and we celebrate it.

See them commenting and praising the Governor as if he is using his own money to pay and it is not something the citizens are entitled to. SMH

Edo workers have never had it this good, kudos to the Governor for always putting the welfare of the workers first

The bible says a labourer deserves his wages. God bless Obaseki for consistently paying Edo workers and pensionsers their entitlement despite paying the highest minimum wage in the country. Now he has paid 13th month in addition to salary when other states are busy looting workers salaries.

I pray the next government sustains this good gesture in addition to fixing of major roads in the state.

Are you aware that the federal government refused to pay it's workers their December salaries? Now Obaseki not only paid December salary but also paid 13th month. Meanwhile he pays the highest minimum wage of 40k in the country.

Do you know what it means for a governor to pay December salary on time then also add 13th month at a time like this?
The federal government could not pay December salary and they have since stopped paying the wage allowance it promised it's workers.
In other words, Obaseki has done even what Tinubu could not do.
Please he deserves our commendation joor.

This is commendable going by the fact that the workers will be receiving x2 of their salaries this month of December 11th and 27th. He is also prompt at paying pensioners monthly and making efforts to starts paying backlogs of gratuities.

This is not an easy feat judging by the dwindling revenues and paucity of funds nationwide, if he easy make Nigeria federal government do am.

For those saying it’s his basic duties and responsibilities to pay should go and ask other state civil servants if this is the case. Many are owed basic salaries not to talk of getting x2 of it In December or the pensioners even having any hope of getting paid. Before you can even start of making plans to start clearing backlogs of gratuities.

Edo state is of one of the poorest south south and oil producing states yet what Obaseki has done many richer states have been unable to do it. When it comes to judicious management and distribution of scare resources I give it to Obaseki one of the best Governor Edo has ever had.

When he leaves that is when Edo state will know how underrated Obaseki has been.

Same thing with Nigerians, when GEJ left they knew better what true Governance means.
