Concept of Learning

Learning is the process of acquiring new or modifying existing knowledge, behaviors, skills, values, or preferences (Karban, 2015). It is also defined as any relatively permanent change in behaviour that occurs as a result of practice and experience. Learning is about a change: the change brought about by developing a new skill, understanding a scientific law, changing an attitude. The change is not merely incidental or natural in the way that our appearance changes as we get older. Furthermore, learning also refers to a learning task in which a human or machine learner is trained to classify objects by being shown a set of example objects along with their class labels.

The ability to learn is possessed by humans, animals, and some machines, and there is also evidence for some kind of learning in some plants (Karban, 2015). Some learning is immediate, induced by a single event (e.g. being burned by a hot stove), but much skill and knowledge accumulates from repeated experiences. Concept of Teaching

Teaching is the process of attending to people's needs, experiences and feelings, and making specific interventions to help them learn particular things. Teaching is also defined as the way of imparting knowledge by a teacher or other knowledgeable person. In order words, for teaching method to be appropriate and efficient it has to be in relation with the characteristic of the learner and the type of learning it is supposed to bring about. Suggestions are there to design and selection of teaching methods must take into account not only the nature of the subject matter but also how students learn (Westwood, 2008). In today’s school the trend is that it encourages a lot of creativity. It is a known fact that human advancement comes through reasoning. The Relationship between Learning and Teaching

Maori have the term “ako”, which means both to teach and to learn. This terminology describes a teaching and learning relationship whereby the educator is also learning from the student. Its foundations are in the principle of reciprocity between teacher and learner, and understand that the two cannot be separated. Both parties bring knowledge of their learning experiences and interactions together and through them shared learning experiences and understandings are created. Conclusion

Conclusively, learning is skill acquisition and increased fluency. A teacher is anyone who affects the environment so that others learn. Teaching is a method comprises the principles and methods used by teachers to enable student learning. These strategies are determined partly on subject matter to be taught and partly by the nature of the learner.
