So far only three states have declared their budgets for the fiscal year 2024. These states should be commended for the early presentation of their respective budgets as this will ensure smooth take off next year as they implement the budgets to tackle the urgent and important challenges in their states.

Enugu has a budget of over N5120b, Anambra a little above N400b while Ekiti state tendered a budget of N150b. The disparity among the three states is what I want to discuss in this piece.

From the budgetry allocation presented so far and from others that are yet to be presented, it has become clear that states will no longer be supported by the FG in carrying out their tasks especially in terms of monetary assistance. States will now have to do with their IGR and other means of revenue in order to be able to meet up.

From the initial presentations so far, it is looking like the SE has a higher budget than the SW. Though it is too early to conclude that this is how the trajectory will be, yet I am constrained to prematurely presume that apart from Lagos State, the combined budget of the rest SW states will not amount to half of the combined SE states.

Unfortunately this trend will continue throughout this present administration's stay. This is due to the disappearance of 'free money'. And we know the SW are incurable lovers of free money, Sara money etc while the SE work real hard for their money.

Anyway, let's see the next state to presentits budget and the we can confirm if my thesis proves true or not.

Can you remind us when the government was supporting the states outside their allocations and emergencies like Covid?

What do you think the FAAC is all about?

So, you don't know that accruement from FAAC is the legal entitlement of states.
BTW, where do you think the money from budget is coming from if not federal.
It is definitely not IGR as only 2 states generates up to 30% of their FAAC income.

Budget is statement of intent. For example,
Abia state plans to borrow almost 100% of its 2024 budget and tie unborn generations of Abia state to monumental debt.

Hopefully, this time, Abia state will not budget N25m for schools and N1.25 billion for state house feeding.

If I were you, I will delve into the details and follow the money instead of surface level. So much mediocre leaders in your zone yet only God knows how you have the mind to compare SE to SW when you should actually compare SE states to equally mostly unviable and terrorist-ravaged NE states like SE states.

We know where the mediocre leaders are found: in the SW and also the North, where despite the huge allocations the states get, yet majority of their populace are always begging for money or touting.

What entitlement is that? So they don't have the same entitlement to Zamfara gold? It's only the oil from SS that you all have entitlement to. Shameless!
Look you better wake up as soon there will not be enough to go round under this present administration of renewed shege.

This poor Ibo guy writing senseless thread when Otti already borrowed his future away without any means of paying back.

Ogun state alone make revenue more than what almost the 5 poor SE states generate combined.

How can SE state make revenue when IPOB terrorists keep killing them and declaring sit at home every week.
