Double of that expected in 2024 multiplied by 36 states annually.

Perhaps, but the reasons are more mundane

1.Farming...more hands on the farms...more births

2.Poverty...more children, means that in your old age, each of your 15 kids can send you 'something' even if it is N5000 , and it might be enough to tide one over.

As for elections, Obasanjo and Yaradua won elections without the need for the far north vote.

Also, Gombe state is split evenly between Muslims and Christians.

I beg to differ, most of those children are more likely to be shipped to south west for Almajiri.

It is normal with us here. One man three wives, four children per wife totallin 15kidz.He is likely to divorce one along the line sighting disrespect thus +extra may be four kids....all in all =5+5+5+4 =19.multiply by how many house hold him his father had too! You will be afradid of what you will come across in the North. At end of the day, you had found out that every one in a local government is almost inter married between Family historical lines.I have such a case study here in a particular state and LGA I reside currently.you can't gossip one to the other or quarrel one and support the other ,you will find out that na almost the same brothers and first/ second cousins you gossiped to the other ,your case go caste !

No, not from Gombe. As I said, it isn't a 'Hausa' state. It has several tribes contained therein, and a large proportion of the population is christian

Nigerian's high birth rate is good for the economy. Nigeria leaders are the only only (not mistake) problem we have in this country.
If our leaders could be responsible, believe it or not the world will fear Nigeria because of her economic might.
I pray Nigeria government is delivered from every evil spirit of corruption in Jesus Name Amen.

The Nigeria Population Commission (NPC) has recorded a total of 424,302 births in Gombe State from January to November. Adedeji Adeniyi, the head of NPC’s Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Gombe State, disclosed that 44.13% (187,283) of the registered births were girls, while 55.86% (237,019) were boys.

The registrations, conducted across more than 100 registration centers, encompassed children aged 0 to 17 years. Of the total figure, 76,900 were children below the age of one year, with 43,140 boys and 33,760 girls. Furthermore, 285,010 children were aged between one and four years, comprising 125,230 girls and 159,780 boys. Lastly, 62,392 children fell within the four to 17 years age bracket, with 28,293 girls and 34,099 boys.

Adeniyi emphasized the NPC’s commitment to increasing birth registration and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders in the state. The transition from manual to digital birth registration, facilitated by a collaboration with UNICEF, has significantly streamlined the process. This modern approach aims to encourage more residents to register their births, recognizing the importance of data for governmental planning and intervention.

Underlining the significance of birth registration, Adeniyi stressed that it grants children identity, nationality, and access to essential social amenities. He also expressed concern over the inadequate registration of deaths in the state, urging residents to register such events as it provides crucial insights for government planning and decision-making. Notably, registering deaths offers insights into prevalent causes of mortality, thus facilitating informed policy planning and implementation.

Can't believe this report. Gombe State is about 4 million in population. How many are women? How many women are of child bearing age? How many had kids in 2023? Completely suspicious numbers.

Whoa! It's super progress.
Progress or problems?
Nigeria government need to limit the number of kids family has.
In UK they have minimum income a household should earn. A maximum number of people a house should accommodate. Government makes this rule to control population growth

So just one state recorded 424,304 live births in a single year?

For perspective, 605,749 live births were recorded in England and Wales in 2022. Yes, that's across two nations with a combined population of 60.2 million - and 15 times the population of Gombe state!

To be clear, estimates for the population of Gombe state range from 3,472,223 to 3,960,100, while official figures given for England and Wales is 60.2 million. Yet there are a lot of dim-witted commentators on NL who still insist Nigeria is being depopulated by Bill Gates! grin
