Venza if possible. Run from that BMW. Not because it's a bad car, but most mechanics here lack knowledge on fixing it.

Both cars are not even known for the the requirements you stated above.
Crosstour slant roof makes it useless when space is been discussed (if cargo space is part of the spacious you mean) For rugged, it's not known for that either.
X3 can pass for rugged, repair is a big issues considering most mechanics are Asian make inclined. However, it's not spacious instead compact is more like it.
Between the two, X3 should beat it for space and rugged.
