Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has said a vibrant rail system is needed to boost Nigeria’s economy.
Aregbesola spoke yesterday in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
He said no nation in the world depends solely on road transportation.
Aregbesola said: “Sole reliance on road transportation has affected the nation’s economy adversely. It is high time the Federal Government improved our air and waterways for efficient transportation. Anywhere in the world, a combination of transportation systems makes a nation.
“We have overused our roads and need the alternative of a viable rail system. It is, therefore, necessary for government to develop other means of transportation.”
He said food products from the state would be exchanged for finished products from Lagos State at a market in Dagbolu, a small community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, through rail.
NRC’s Managing Director Adeseyi Sijuwade said the corporation, in collaboration with the Osun State Government, would boost the state’s economy through freight services.
Sijuwade said the NRC has dedicated wagons to service the state.
He said: “When the NRC completes ongoing rehabilitation of its facilities, we shall collaborate with other state governments, organisations and any person that requires our services.
“This is a development that is in conformity with our home grown strategy to public private partnership, aimed at delivering quality rail transport services to Nigerians.”

Another corroboration of Aregbesola's solid transport plans with the NRC , to aid commercial agricultural, the usual spambots did their best to rubbish on Nairaland.

Indeed. The guy is doing so much right yet so many lies are told against him. I just feel for the guy. This is why I laugh when some say I defend Aregbesola and the ACN blindly. This is not the case at all. It is simply about doing what is decent in speaking up in support of those maligned falsely and viciously. I will prove my point.

One the thread about Worst Governor,  below is what Jason123 wrote;

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-788850.0.html

Dayo, it was here we saw a state as poor as Osun, say it will build a railway line. Have you asked yourself if osun state will ever get the money to execute such capital projects?? When you get the REAL answer, then you'll realise that the money for such a project was meant for his friends and family.

Is it not clear that what is written above is wicked slander against Aregbesola? To claim Aregbesola will build a railway line , when the man never said no such thing, and then maliciously infer that Aregbesola is planning to embezzle funds for a "railway line" , only existing in the 'creative' imagination of Jason123, is the heights of careless and false character assasination. Is it then any wonder , as a believer in truth and decency, that I responded strongly to the tripe Jason123 wrote? To be honest, I really wonder what Aregbesola has done to warrant the outright lies and fabrications against his Government. The man said he would partner with the NRC to aid commercial Agriculture. That is confirmed here again. yet somehow they have manipulated everything to give us their own version that Aregbesola wants to embezzle funds with a phantom railway line project. Lord havey mercy.

There is actually nothing wrong with Dayo. You rather, has gone from the objective poster many respected to a partisan chap who is now speaking without recourse to logic and objectivity. We all know Beaf is mad but that does not mean those of us with our own strong sense of identity should ever lose track of commonsense or facts. Because Beaf spams the forum maligning Aregebsola, some , including those erstwhile credited with genuine objectivity, are beginning to parrot and regurgitate the silly crap Beaf utters.

When did Aregbesola ever state that Osun would build Railways? Does partnering with the NRC (Nigerian rail corporation) amount to "building railway" ? why lie against Aregbesola like that? You of all people?

Wale , from Osun State , says it correctly below when he praises Aregbesola for his achievement while urging the governor to ignore detractors.

Critics Of Aregbesola’s One Year Anniversary Are Wrong

Omoluabi Governor Rauf AregbesolaOn November  27, the  administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola will clock a year. That day marks the day the people of Osun State were liberated from the yolks of the oppressors that governed the state for seven and half years.

Though some people, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been condemning the government of Aregbesola for reason best known to them, but to me, the first anniversary of the governor is far-far better than the seven and years of ousted governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Let’s take for instance, the dredging of streams and rivals in some communities in the state with the view of controlling floods in the state.
We know what we witness in the state in 2010, when flood wrecked havoc on the people of the state and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

Aregbesola has saved many houses from sinking into the flood, as all the streams and rivers that posed threats to the communities have properly channelised.

Osun State has also worn a new look with the O’CLEAN programme of Aregbesola aimed at cleaning the state and restore it dignity. Yesterday government never thought of such programmes, but rather, humiliated victims of the flood with Oyinlola’s expensive jokes.

OYES, O’REAP, reduction in tuition fees of all the state owned tertiary institutions including Osun State University are projects that Oyinlola never dreamed of while siphoning the state funds.

I must commend the governor for his transformational programmes and his effort to develop the state regardless of what the people might say on his government.

To me, the critics of Aregbesola’s government are slowpoke and saboteurs. They know the truth but they will not say it. These set of people are born killers, destroyers and ingrates.

The governor should please, leave the critics and face governance. The critics are detractors that want to frustrate his administration, but we the people that install Aregbesola are behind him.

It is matter of months, before these people realize that they truly wasted seven and half years.

Yes . A year this November. Some of what Aregbesola has done in one year, Oyinlola could not manage in 7.5 years !!! This is why I particularly abhor the functional illiteracy and 'second information' mentality afflicting Nigerians. OREAP , OYES and OTOUR (Osun tourism) confirm Aregbesola as one of the most ideologically sound Governors in Nigeria. Osun's initiatives regarding youth employment, agricultural sufficiency and economic diversification that secures massive increase in State income (via commercial agriculture, tourism et al) are things other Nigerian Governors can learn from. The man should be praised for walking the walk in trying to make Osun an economically successful State not dependent on FG handouts.

Total governance also means that the economic landscape has to be
reshaped. And it is been reshaped in a refreshing sort of way.
Aregbesola is waking a determined creative effort to wean the state
off the parasitic mainstream relationship with the centre. This is a
very sensible policy thrust. If the current landmark initiatives are
to be sustained, the state must develop its own economic base. And
that base must be self-sustaining. Such a policy thrust must translate
into sustainable employment as well as the extension and deepening of
the tax base.

In line with the conception of total governance agriculture which
employs the bulk of the citizenry is now been thrust into centre

13th month = what. . . ?

Did they get an extra month salary in a year?

If so, why? What was his rationale for doing this?
