The kid is facing the woman in the green, therefore her. Secondly, she's wearing flats and that makes sense because she's in her home, unlike the woman in the red with heels on. Lastly, her tense body language speaks volume because she's probably tending to the kid as she chats, unlike the other woman who is just sitting there chillin'.

Obvious -

I. her body language. Learning forward.

II. The child's body language. Facing her.

Not so obvious-

I. high heels of 1 shows she might not be the mother. Its a flimsy reason though.
2. Hem of her skirt is long, not easy to bend.
3. Her sleeves limit her mobility.
All these and u did not mention they are wasting same typa clothes grin

It's 1.
They are wearing the same clothes.
The picture is in a way it makes it obvious who is the mother, but since it is too easy, our brain try to look deep and connect what it is not there.
There is no way you could tell who is the mother. Sitting position or hair color is not the answer.
The obvious is the child and the mother are wearing thesame clothes.
