Mastercard and visa card issued by most nigerian banks like gtb, access, diamond and zenith can be used worldwide both on atm and pos. Guaranteed. Verve cards appear to be limited to Nigeria but since you are already in UAE, why not try it on atm first? If it works on atm, it will work on pos in stores.

To use a Verve card outside Nigeria, you need to get a MasterCard Verve Card (its a combo MasterCard & Verve Card in one). You can get a MasterCard Verve Card from Skye Bank (i learnt other banks will soon start issuing it in Nigeria).

The MasterCard Verve Card works on all MasterCard ATMs & PoS worldwide and accepted on ", 30.9 million acceptance locations across 210 markets worldwide, which include merchant locations, ATMs and other locations where cash can be obtained."
