Ok, someone has said it before, and I'll say it again, No Anti-Virus is Best for your computer! For you to be able to choose the best AV product, you will have to have enough data about the following: 1) The detection rate of individual AV product 2) Malware Analysis & Reverse Engineering capabilities of individual AV Vendor 3) % of Heuristic to True Positive detection records of individual AV Vendor , among other things. I know some of the terms are jargons to some readers, but will do my best to break them down. There are 43 major AV vendors (see www.virustotal.com), and virus detection by its very nature is a reactive process. Here is the virus infection/detection lifecycle: a) The bad guy writes a malicious software and tries to infect your machine with it. b) Your AV software does one of 3 things: b.1 knows about this malicious software, detects it, and removes it - this is called signature-based detection b.2 doesn't know about this malicious software, but notices that it's trying to change something in part of the operating system which should be out-of-bounds (e.g, registry keys) to such software. It stops it doing this - this is known as heuristic detection. And then the scary third, b.3 it doesn't detect the malicious software as doing anything malicious to the system. So, it does nothing!!! The bad guys are constantly innovating ways of making their 'badwares' evade detection by AV products, and unfortunately, they are doing that pretty well. The good guys (AV vendors, security researchers & whitehats) are always playing catch up. i.e, the bad guy writes a malicious code, the good guy waits to see what that code does and devises a way to detect and remove it. The best way to proactively defend your system from compromise is by constantly scanning the OS, apps, Browser & browser plug-ins for vulnerabilities and applying the relevant patches asap. I posted something about this some time ago; https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=657332.msg8233938#msg8233938 A malicious software will always look for vulnerabilities to exploit. Getting rid of all vulnerabilities in your OS, apps, Browser & browser plug-ins and so on gives you a better chance of keeping out the bad guy. I hope some people will find this useful. |

Whichever you are using , stay away from trial version-it gives limited protection. If you are lucky to have a maleware like this-w32.virut,cf , all data in the system will be wiped out.You have to format to get rid of it. |

niyimat:lol U dont have to buy it. Just download the free version after dat u probably will be given the premium update option. Just upgrade it, it will ask u for licence key which you can easily get with a simple google search. I got a license key for my avast that will expire in 2030 lol. |

There are many decent antivirus software on the market, pay special attention to Bitdefender, McAfee, BullGuard, Norton and Kaspersky. Please install official versions only, pirated software can cause serious damage to your OS and your reputation. Here's a great article revealing all the dangers and disadvantages of pirated software https://shareware.deals/pirated-software-and-why-you-should-avoid-it , take a look at it. |
