Another edition of the Africa Cup of Nations is about to kick off, and Ivory Coast is gearing up to host the 24 teams competing for the title of African champions. One of the most intriguing groups in AFCON 2023 is undoubtedly Group B, consisting of the record-winning Egypt, perennial contenders Ghana, the intriguing Cape Verde, and a team looking to surprise many, Mozambique.


Egypt is the most successful team in the Africa Cup of Nations, boasting seven titles. The Egyptians have lifted the trophy three times on home soil (1959, 1986, and 2006). They are the only team to win the cup three times consecutively.

Hassan El-Shazly with twelve goals in eight matches (an average of 1.50 goals per game). He is the fourth-highest scorer in AFCON history.

Player to Watch:

Mohamed Salah: The Liverpool star is not only Egypt's best player but also one of the finest attackers globally. Salah, with 18 goals in 27 matches this season (including Premier League and UEFA Champions League), is Egypt's second all-time leading scorer with 56 goals.

Performance in the Last Edition:

Egypt had an exceptional run in AFCON 2021, finishing second in Group D behind Nigeria. They defeated Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Cameroon to reach the final against Senegal. Unfortunately, they lost in a penalty shootout (2-4), falling short of claiming their eighth title.

André Ayew: The Ghanaian forward is his country's second all-time leading scorer in AFCON and might be playing in his last tournament, aiming to climb the competition's all-time scoring charts.

Performance in the Last Edition:

Ghana had its worst AFCON campaign in the last edition, securing only one point in the group stage with a draw against Gabon. They lost to Morocco and Comoros, finishing last in their group and failing to advance to the knockout stage.
