I was just thinking this. Pigs love digging up dirt and bacteria is essential to their growth. They need to exist in a symbiotic state otherwise you're going to have an absence of normal immune function. You'll end up having to keep feeding them antibiotics.

There are deep litter systems now that work just fine. No smells, no dirt just Bacteria breaking down the waste. You won't need to clean for months. Moreover if the pen is well designed, they won't need constant cleaning. Pigs aren't dirty animals as people are made to believe but they need wet places to cool off. Pigs defecate away from their eating area.
