Why is it that it's only in the Northern part of this country insecurity persists?

Yes, every part of the union has it share but, in the North, it's a different case. The level of insecurity is higher and it doesn't simply persist but rather it's trying to be the norm. Why?

Well, the North, compare to the other regions is bigger not only in landmass but also in population. The size of the land and large number of the population are of course a blessing to the region.

In this context, however, the idea of the land and population and any other resources being a blessing to a nation which clearly applies to other regions in Nigeria is always dependent on how they have been developed and utilized so that they can be useful. There is no question about how woefully Nigeria have failed in this regard.

So instead of the North to benefit from it's advantageous resources, they have become a burden to it.

So, until the large number of population in the North are well educated and taken care of, it will remain the biggest threat fueling the fire of social vises and criminal activities. This will be compounded by some mischievous hands who will pursue their self interests through it.

Russia with all of it's landmass is not battling terrorism and banditry like we are having today. We must call this for what it is. Our leaders have failed us and each time an opportunity presents itself to select the right people to represent us, we end up electing people who are even worse than their predecessors. Nigeria is a failed state and nothing's going to change about it. Not anytime soon at least.
