Nigeria Vs Guinea-Bissau Review

The Super Eagles of Nigeria faced Guinea-Bissau today in what was a key qualification fixture. The Nigerian side needed a win to get seven points which will assure them of the top spot if Ivory Coast managed to hold Equatorial Guinea to a draw or even so take all three points against them which will see both Nigeria and Ivory Coast make it through Group A.

The Eagles Coach Jose Peseiro made three changes to his team who beat the Ivorians by one goal. He fielded Moses Simon, Joe Aribo and Samuel Chukweze in his starting line up and Alex Iwobi dropping to the bench being replaced by Frank Onyeka but the formation remained the same 4-2-3-1 formation used against Ivory Coast

Guinea Bissau on the other hand were playing for nothing having lost their two games to Ivory Coast and Equatorial Guinea with zero points and last placed in Group A. The game took off with a female center referee Bouchra Karboubi taking charge.

Guinea Bissau took a defensive approach to the game with many of their men sitting back hoping to prevent the Super Eagles attack from penetrating and then hitting them on the counter. The game had very few chances in the first fifteen minutes and deep down into the first forty minutes before Moses Simon hit in a cross for Victor Osimhen before the Guinea-Bissau defender Opa Sangate mis-kicked the ball into his own net for an own goal.

Moses Simon again in the 46th minute of the game swung in a very great cross for Victor Osimhen, the Napoli man made good contact with the ball but couldn't direct his header well.
The referee blew the whistle for half time.

The Second half began strongly with the Super Eagles searching for a second goal. In the 56th minute they thought they had doubled the lead but referee ruled for offside on Victor Osimhen.

In the 60th minute there were changes made by Jose Peseiro. Joe Aribo came off for Alex Iwobi. The Super Eagles pressed on for another goal as Moses Simon dribbled past a Guinea-Bissau defender to square a chance for Alex Iwobi only for the Premier league star to shoot wide.

The game continued to be dominated by the Eagles as Ola Iana in the 78th minute put in another wonderful cross only for Osimhen to head wide.
Guinea Bissau thought they had equalized in the 81st minute only for it to be ruled out for offside.

The game ends 1-0 in favour of the Super Eagles who finish second in the group behind Equatorial Guinea who defeated the hosts Ivory Coast by 4-0.
