Police recruitment: Otti expresses concern as 700 Abia candidates shun interview

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has expressed concern over the poor response of youths from the state to the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, noted that it had come to the notice of the government that the quota allocated to the state in the recruitment exercise has been grossly underutilized.

According to the statement, 700 candidates from the state, who were invited for interview, towards recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force, failed to show up.

“Regrettably, about 700 candidates invited for interview in the ongoing recruitment exercise are yet to show up.

“To this end, the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, has directed all local government Mayors, Chairmen of traditional rulers Councils and their members in all the LGAs, Presidents-general of town unions, and community leaders to immediately mobilize their youths for this very important exercise to ensure that the state’s quota is filled.

“The Governor further directed all those who have been invited for the interview as a matter of urgency, to appear for the exercise.

“Abia cannot be left out in the scheme of any aspect of Nigeria’s socio-political and economic life,” the statement said.

The statement further urged all invited candidates who are yet to show up for the recruitment exercise, for one reason or the other, to approach the Office of the Commissioner for Information and Culture for further clarifications.

Our useless politicians are always shocked... grin

Fire all current police elements
Recruite proper humans into the police
Change them useless uniform and cheap yeye shoes
Change their name from Nigerian police force.
Stop buying useless pick ups and buy proper police vehicles with highly sophisticated equipments
Increase their salaries and allowances plus attractive pension funds.
Stop giving them useless guns to be carrying hup han Dan

Any police man seen using korope to harrass boys should be thrown into hell fire..

So stop been shocked and do the right thing.

You are ignorant. Go and check the staff list of the Police and clear your doubt.

If Igbos no go do Police, it is very good. SS people with Igbo names will use your slot for promotion and will come to your State be doing CP and AIG there.

Be deceiving yourself. Na recruit dey become DIG?

When other zones had candidates for DIG position, South East didn't have anybody. They had to carry Frank Mba CP to become AIG in order to become eligible as DIG.

Now, some zones have produced 4 successive DIGs, only Frank Mba is there as DIG.
Your loss. Deal with it.

It is not about salary rather it is due to insecurity and bandits that targets security agents in southeast.

I daresay the Nigerian Police Force is largely a disgraceful and volatile occupation. They're underpaid and overworked. They're hardly in the news for anything nice, as long as I remember.

Reform the Nigerian Police to become more honourable and attractive so youths can see that as a profession worth pursuing.

These days, if you ask a bunch of secondary school leavers what they want to become, you won't hear policeman from them 🤷🏾‍♂️

It’s irritating when a news article repeats the same statement over and over again.

Hehehehehe grin grin grin

Imagine you enter a classroom and ask pupils one by one what they want to be when they grow up! One after the other stands up, says their preference and sits down for the next, and unsurprisingly all you hear is 'doctor...lawyer....engineer....pilot.....footballer.....afrobeat star....etc'! They all mention the usual careers and professions....except this one boy who stands up, and when you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he confidently answers 'olopa' with his full chest and sits back down again! shocked You'd have to pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming! shocked

The Igbos have faced discrimination in recruitments to military and paramilitary over the years to a point that they lost interest. Even when they bribe the officers they hardly make the final list because they are not represented in the recruitment boards.

Imagine that Frank Mbah had to be promoted 3 times in 3 months to make him a DIG because IGP Solomon Arase insisted as Chairman of Police Service Commission that South East MUST be represented in DIG Cadre in line with federal character.

I travel on Nigerian roads and many people will tell you they have never met an Igbo Customs Officer, na northerners full there and they controlled it for decades until Tinubu recently appointed a Yoruba. Our goods are seized and we have to go beg an Emir in the North to call someone in the Customs to help us.

When Igbos cry out about marginalisation only wicked Nigerians will pretend as if they are making noise and say its they have not built political bridges. Go to America and you find several Igbos in their Police and military, an Igbo lady was made a General in US Army last year and it was published here.

You can’t force someone to be a police officer. What is the salary of a police officer? Make the salary attractive and see if people won’t rush to work as a police officer.
