Pedro Goncalves has been an integral part of the Angolan football system since 2015. Beginning with the Primeiro de Agosto's U-15 and U-17 squads, he later achieved success by winning the Angolan league. In 2018, Goncalves secured the COSAFA Cup and played a pivotal role in Angola's historic qualification for the under-17 World Cup.

His journey continued as he took charge of the U-20 and U-23 teams before ascending to the position of senior national team coach in 2019. Goncalves stands out as the only coach for the Palancas Negras who has successfully guided the team to qualify for both the African Nations Championship and the African Nations Cup.

Presently, he has steered Angola to their best-ever group stage performance in the AFCON, topping Group D with 7 points alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania. Notably, he orchestrated a convincing victory with three goals against Namibia in the knockout stage, setting the stage for a quarter-final clash against Nigeria.
