This should normally be done at the hospital where the child was born an in worst case the local government should get this information from hospitals and community leaders of any new child birth.

How do you confirm citizenship? Or neighbouring countries can just visit any Birth register center in Nigeria and just become a Nigerian!

(Because, from 1992 to 2024 is actually 32yrs, and not 18yrs.. So, I don't understand why they are trying to link those born before 1992 into this news article).

An Act was propagated in 1992, and according to the Act, any person below the age of 18yrs who registers their birth would get a Birth Certificate, but if the person didn't register his/her birth until after 18yrs of age, then whenever he/she comes to register his/her Birth, he/she WON'T get a birth certificate any longer, but an Attestation of Birth.
**Nothing in the Act concerns being born before 1992.




According to the information available on the NPC’s website, the age for the issuance of “Attestation of Birth” is 16yrs and above,, and not “18yrs and above” as reported in the newspaper publication.

And so? Any which way na way na! Birth certificate or attestation of birth, as long as they both are tenable, all na the same

That they are not contained inside the NPC birth DATABASE.

They have health centres that issue birth certificates and they just cant harmonize their data even in 2024 because of fund generation.

This is a national security issue. This is the point when someone Citizenship is registered and also get the NIN. Does the NPC has the capacity to ensure compliance at the every hospitals in the country? Can the NPC provides special equipment to each hospital for which they can securely connect to thier backend and do registration? I believe birth registration should be carried out in collaboration with hospitals, NIMC and communities via the LGA for birth not in the hospital LGA officials should collect that information from the community regularly at least weekly.
