*MINIMUM WAGE IN NIGERIA (MONTHLY)* 1981: ₦125 ($195) 1989/90: ₦250 ($31) 1998/99: ₦3,000 ($32) 2000/01: ₦5,500 & ₦7,500 ($49 & $67) 2011: ₦18,000 ($117) 2018: ₦30,000 ($98) 2023: ₦30,000 Official rate: $65 Parallel market rate: $44 2024: ₦30,000 Official rate: $21.22 Parallel market rate: $20.76 #StatiSense For those who might struggle with interpreting stats, this shows that if a month contains 30 days, ✓ Nigerians once went home with $6.5 per day to spend ✓ the military hurt Nigeria, bringing down her spending power to about $1 per day ✓ the military handed over such a poor State to civilians in 1999 ✓ somehow, Nigeria picked up steadily to a spending strength of over $1.6 per day the next year (2000) and to over $2.2 per day by the very next (2001). *Nigeria certainly started recovery*. ✓ by 2011, Nigeria had improved back to about $3.9 per day - that's around $4/day! ✓ then by 2015, *APC came into power* ✓ by 2018, Nigerians had been reduced back to $3.2 spending power per day ✓ and by 2023, Buhari, APC's first president, handed over a State with spending power of about $1.5 - $2.2 ✓ in less than one year, the current administration has impoverished Nigerians further to a spending power of 69.2 cents - 70.7 cents! Nigerians' spending power no longer makes sense to be rated in dollars so, cents is now fitting. #StatiSense |
