The wheat grain levy account was instituted by the Jonathan administration in 2012 to enhance the substitution of wheat with cassava in bread making.
The whole idea was to fund the expansion of domestic wheat as well as improve the use of cassava in bread.
This is the second time I'm seeing the account used for purposes other than what it was meant for.
The first was to fund the UNGA in New York last year.
It is thus obvious that while the tax is still being paid from imported wheat, the money is not utilised for what it was supposed to be used for. Instead, it's become like a piggy bank to be dipped into for different requests that have no bearing on wheat substitution or cassava production.
This stands in contrast with the period wherein we're experiencing food shortages and bakers are threatening to shut down due to high cost of inputs.
This account should either be shut down in the interest of public probity or re-engineered to serve its purpose.
It is hypocritical to make platitudes on need for food security while we're spending money raised for such purpose on frivolous things.
BTW, where are those who claim the present man is clearing the former man's mess? Is this part of the mess being cleared?

Same was applied on Jona. The chickens are coming home to roost. When you dig a pit for others, be careful lest you fall inside also.

I think APC voters should just admit a mistake was made so we can forgive them and start planning a way to compel the government to think of its citizens first
