The man was asked where he is from and he said he is from Oyo. There would be a reasonable basis for doubt if he made this claim in a thick Russian, Kanuri, Chinese, Igbo, Tiv or British accent. We aren't 100% sure he is telling the truth but his claim is plausible...for now at least.

Again, this simply isn't true. There is no way on earth that you can predict with certainty something as random as the linguistic quirks and foibles of a murder suspect. It just isn't possible. I have met far too many people (not murder suspects under interrogation, I hasten to add) of various ethnicities who describe themselves in a manner similar to that of this fellow.
