….As American, Ekiti top officials meet in Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has solicited the support and partnership with the United States of America in developing the critical economic sectors of the state to achieve his administration’s shared prosperity agenda.

Specifically, Ekiti State, according to Governor Oyebanji is desirous of the American government’s support for its Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on cocoa development as well as a collaboration between the state’s knowledge Zone and US technology hub, the Silicon Valley.

Governor Oyebanji, who disclosed these in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday during a meeting with a team from American Embassy led by the Charge d’Affaires, David Green, said the state would explore the American expertise, resources, and investment as a progressive partner in the areas of economy, security, climate change, innovations, among others.

The Ekiti State Governor, at the meeting which was attended by the Consul General of the American Embassy, William Stevens; Chairman of CAVISTA Holdings, who is also the Chairman of Corporate Council on Africa, Mr John Olajide; and some top embassy officials, thanked the American Government for the support the state has received in its agriculture development drive, especially the Ikun Diary Farm.

He explained that the collaboration is expected to strengthen the state’s economy, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life of her citizens.

Stressing that productivity remains the watchword in his administration’s economic drive, Governor Oyebanji said any state that desires growth must be productive. “If a state must prosper, that state must work on productivity and for productivity to happen there must be collaboration with the private sector.”,
he added.

He highlighted areas of collaborations with the United States to include support in the Agriculture sector, Ekiti Knowledge Zone, Youth and women empowerment, art and culture, climate change, health care, renewable energy, and investment promotion, among others.

The Governor expressed confidence that the collaborations would also unlock opportunities for advancement within the state, said his government is committed to driving economic prosperity and improving the standard of living of the citizens.

The Governor assured that his government would continue to provide enabling environment for private sectors with the aim of turning the state into production hub, thereby growing the economy of the state

“The State thank you for your support and investment Ikun Dairy Farm. Ikun is a game changer, they have done so well, but they can do better, so we will be looking for support at feed formulation and artificial examination because that will solve the foreign exchange problem." The Governor said.

Earlier in his remark, the Charge d’Affaires, David Green, expressed the readiness of the United States Government to work with Ekiti State government to achieve its economic growth, adding that the Embassy would identify potential areas of development where the US could lend a hand in enhancing the state’s economic performance.

The Ambassador assured the Governor that the United States government is keen on ways to foster fruitful collaboration with the state government especially in the fields of Agriculture, health, knowledge economy, among others.

He promised to further the discussion with relevant agencies of the state government.

Other top officials at the meeting include Speaker of House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye; Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Bolaji Olagbaju; the Secretary to the State Government, Dr (Mrs) Habibat Adubiaro; Head of Service, Engr Sunday Komolafe; Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade; Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani; Special Adviser on Governance, Hon Odunayo Ayeni and Director General, Ekiti Development and Investment Promotion Agency (EKDIPA), Mrs Lolade Olutola.

The Embassy’s team included Foreign Agriculture Councelor, Chris Bielecki; Deputy Political and Economic Chief, Kenise Hill; Political Specialist, Mayowa Obilade; Foreign Agricultural Specialist, Tolani Abegunde among others.

The team proceeded on an inspection of the Agbeyewa farms and other agricultural investments in the state, shortly after the meeting.

Gone are those days. The then Giant of Africa is the largest exporter of Cocoa then we don't even have crude oil. We have a very wonderful economy.

But I weep for my country how things have greatly declined. How corruption ate our country and it's still eating and the sad part is that, the coming generation is being corrupted.

We need to diversify.

But who will save this country??

Insecurity is the order of the day

Judiciary get arm twisted to benefit individuals regardless of the merits of the case.

Government is mute regarding the issues that's impacting small businesses

With all these you think foreign investors will be attracted to anything in that country?

Looking for them to come solve for problems that the government created for you. SMH

Where are the Team Russia and China?

Let’s call a spade a spade. America and Europe own the soul and body of Africa.

We can practically achieve nothing without them.

We only boast about breaking away, forgetting that, we are already entangle beyond redemption.

My utterances might be blunt and unpatriotic, but sometimes, someone has to say the truth.

Africa is madly inlove with her number one enemy.

Hmmm ... did he put the same effort in reaching out to locals? ... what does the US know about cocoa? ... cocoa is red hot on the world market ... supply can't keep up with demand .... instead of trying to boost local production and trying to find US markets ... whereby ringing in foreign currency .... he's hell bent on inviting the foreigners to control the local ocoa market. Why would they not come? Local farmers are now in danger ... but it doesn't matter .... after all .... it's foreign investment.

So you think it is Russia and China that meant well for Africa, so delusional. I don't think Putin that silenced every opposition and want to annex every neighboring countries to restore soviet empire is still in touch with humanity to have any sensible dealings with.

Putin may wake up tomorrow and decide to turn Nigeria to a big farm lol.

Seems you have a problem with comprehension. Where did I state that Africa should turn to China and Russia?

Was I not just calling out the sets who believe Africa will turn to Russia and China.

Nonsense.
Let’s leave the white people alone. Let’s look inward.
We cannot continue to depend on the Chinese on America to develop our economy.
The poor people will end up suffering from this.

For decades, have smart people not been calling for the decentralization of Nigeria's economic system?

Have they not been begging for each State to develop their own natural resources and control their own destiny!

Have we not sounded the alarm that Nigeria is practicing the very opposite of the economic system that exist in America, Canada, Germany, Japan and other industrialized nations!

Have we not been begging the Federal Government to stop the practice whereby we drill oil in one State and allocate the revenue or proceeds to other States?

Have we not tirelessly begged our Government that the only way to diversify Nigeria's economy is through decentralization and economic empowerment of States, as it is done in America, Canada, Germany, etc? With economic empowerment, some States will manage their natural resources better than others. So, industries will relocate to those States that provide better infrastructure, like uninterrupted power supply. Yes, some States will experience economic boom, and, unfortunately, some States will lag. But, more significantly, the entire Nation would not be held back by those States that cannot, or do not, want to move forward.

But Hausa-Fulani oligarch stubbornly resisted decentralization, thereby preventing the diversification of Nigeria's economy.
Decentralizing the economy would mean giving up control. Northerners have been controlling Nigeria like it is their private property.
After the counter-coup of 1966, when they seized power, all National policies and decisions have been made with the interest of the North, leading to gradual and continued decline of the country.
Northerners have been using Nigeria's resource wealth like it is their private fund. They dominate Nigerian armed forces and National security; they rushed the capital to the North; they built Kainji dam with resource revenue from the South; they blatantly defied the principles of location of industries, and established oil refineries in the North. They don't have oil, but they ran NNPC, and controlled most Oil Blocks. They enjoyed preferential treatment for admission into higher institution - the list is endless.
Over-centralization compelled the country to depended on one main resource revenue. And this practice has finally killed the country. It's too late now.
