When buhari started his presidency, one of the first things he did was to order all the seized food products from hard working importers to be distributed to northerners.

Back then Nobody said anything.

Today, Tinubu has ordered the same thing.

Now does the government have a right to seize someone’s goods and later distribute it to the citizens?

In most countries when goods are seized because they are considered illegal, they are immediately destroyed but in Nigeria they seize your goods and later share it to another group of people.

If you write a book about the horrific things happening in Nigeria most people won’t believe it.

Always arbitrary reasons. They make up rules unless you bribe them well.

Why should they destroy the goods when they are fit for consumption?

Just the way people support conversion of seized properties to Public parks, police stations, etc. instead of outright demolition. Giving seized and 'fit for consumption' food items makes more sense.

I am pretty sure you are also against destruction of seized oil vessels for environmental, economic and other reasons. Same logic applies here.

My guy, importing things especially food products into Nigeria is a very difficult process. Then you still have to pay bribe to customs. Then after all that hard work, they tell you that your goods are contraband or illegal to import and they seize it.

Years later your seized goods is being used to feed others. How would you as an importer feel?

Go and open a manufacturing unit, importers don't want to employ people, it's greed.

I don't know why a lot of you people love lying.

How can you import food products through the right process, pay all the necessary bills and still get your goods confiscated... Do you think we're kids here?

You have never dealt with customs before. I have. It’s a terrible experience. It’s a moving goal post for those people.

If someone in customs decide now that your good won’t be cleared no matter how much English you speak or constitution you quote, they don’t give a damn.

These food products oftentimes seized by customs are passed off as expired, dangerous and not fit for human consumption.

They released to idp camps or auctioned to the public after a while.

It's all deception!

If you don’t bribe them enough they seize your goods and make up reasons.

Later they take those same food to feed people.

Get a copy of banned goods by CBN that you cannot import. CBN won't give you dollars to import them but yet you went to BDC to get dollars and import.
Now your import was seized and you are angry seeing it being distributed to Nigerians

Arbitrary reasons like banning certain food imports so as to grow local production and save scarce FX .

None of the seized banned food stuff like imported rice passed through any of our ports but we're smuggled in via illegal land routes.

The smugglers will not sell their rice without considering the cost of producing local rice but will peg the rice slightly below the price of local rice.

So government loses revenue from import duties , farmers struggle to compete with cheaper imports and the smugglers make huge profits since they do not pay duty on their imports.

There is no way the customs will seize your goods if it isn't contraband .

All the rice in custom custody were seized from smugglers or in wharehouses and the owners could not provide how they got the rice into the country.

I warned people to stay away from that blood rice yesterday because the rice has curses on it.. Yesterday alone 7 people died while trying to gain access to the cursed rice and many more will face curses after reselling the rice

I will feel good, before importing know what is acceptable n fulfill all due diligence. Failure to mean you should be ok with losing your investment n you can go to court to seek redress if you believe you have a valid case

Shut your foolish mouth.

Na only you de import for the whole Nigeria. Those custom no be your likes bribe them till it is now a norm to settle before clearing any goods. How we don't know how you roll.

Do custom just look n decide your goods won't be cleared if you paid all necessarily fee even before it arrives or why do you people like lying like this. You want to shortchanged them for whatever reason n custom reject any shortchanging you start wailing
