56-year-old Nigerian national arrested with drugs worth over N400m in India
The Anti-Narcotic Cell Police Station of Goa Police in India has arrested a 56-year-old Nigerian national during a narcotics raid in Arpora, Bardez, Panaji.

The accused, identified as Innocent Okezuonu Anaemem, was found in possession of drugs valued at Rs. 74 lakh in the international market, the police said in a statement on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

Anaemem, who was residing in Arpora, was arrested during a raid conducted at the weekend based on reliable information.

The seized contraband includes 480 grams of cocaine worth Rs. 72 lakhs, 15 grams of Ecstasy powder valued at Rs. 1.50 lakhs, and 250 grams of Charas worth Rs. 1.25 lakhs.

The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) meticulously monitored the accused's activities for nearly a week, employing both human intelligence and technical surveillance.

The operation culminated in the arrest of the Nigerian national, along with the confiscation of drugs, some cash, and a two-wheeler scooter used for the illicit trade.

The police disclosed that the accused had three cases registered against him in Goa, with pending trials before the respective courts.

In a notable incident in 2013, Anaemem was arrested in the infamous National Highway Blockade case at "O" Coqueiro junction, Porvorim.

Additionally, he faced charges of overstaying without legal documents and assaulting a detention centre employee during a separate case.

The raid, led by PSI Pravin Shimepurushkar and a team of police officers, operated under the supervision of DYSP ANC Shri Nerlon Albuquerque and SP ANC Shri Bossuet Silva.

Investigation into the matter is ongoing under the guidance of PSI Priyanka Garodi of ANC PS.

LexyLaw abeg calm down.

We know they are drug lords, but stop reminding us that they are unrepentant drug lords who are hypocrites to falsely accuse others of the crime they freely celebrate in their villages.

That is the most shocking thing I witnessed on NL.

The fact that over 98% of drugs crimes exposed on NL are perpetuated by the Igbos who in turn mock Tinubu for being a drug baron is the biggest hypocrisy foolishness and shamelessness I witnessed this 2024.

I am not disputing that but have you not read the content of the thread ?! It says an Igbo man caught dealing cocaine worth over ₦400 million in India.

Now Imagine you from the tribe of this cocaine baron gaslighting any human with drug peddling knowing well that almost all household from your tribe is involved in this same drug is what remains a mystery to me.

This is not the best image-making for Nigeria and Nigerians.
I can not blame the trafficker as it may be caused by the hardship and other challenges in the country. I also do not think those challenges are enough to make a person go into drug trafficking or any other crime.

Addressing and preventing drug trafficking is a complex challenge that requires a comprehensive and multifaceted approach involving various stakeholders, including the government, law enforcement agencies, community leaders, educational institutions, and the general public. Here are several strategies that can be employed to help stop drug trafficking:

Education and Awareness:

Implement educational programs that raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of drug trafficking. This includes school curriculum, community workshops, and media campaigns.
Community Engagement:

Foster community involvement and engagement to create a supportive environment that discourages drug-related activities. Community leaders, NGOs, and local authorities can play a crucial role in mobilizing communities against drug trafficking.
Employment Opportunities:

Address the root causes of drug trafficking, such as poverty and lack of employment opportunities. Creating jobs and providing vocational training can offer alternatives to individuals at risk of engaging in illicit activities.
Law Enforcement and Border Control:

Strengthen law enforcement efforts to detect and prevent drug trafficking. This involves investing in training, technology, and collaboration with international agencies to secure borders and intercept illegal shipments.
Legislation and Penalties:

Enact and enforce strict legislation with severe penalties for drug trafficking. A strong legal framework acts as a deterrent and provides law enforcement with the tools to prosecute offenders effectively.
International Cooperation:

Collaborate with neighboring countries and international organizations to share intelligence, coordinate efforts, and implement joint strategies to combat transnational drug trafficking networks.
Treatment and Rehabilitation:

Focus on rehabilitation and treatment programs for individuals struggling with substance abuse. Providing support and assistance to those with addiction issues can help break the cycle of drug trafficking.
Public Reporting Mechanisms:

Establish anonymous reporting mechanisms for the public to report suspected drug trafficking activities. Encourage citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
Customs and Port Security:

Enhance security measures at ports and customs to prevent the smuggling of drugs. This includes the use of advanced screening technologies and increased surveillance.
Diplomacy and Advocacy:

Engage in diplomatic efforts to address the international dimensions of drug trafficking. Advocate for global cooperation, share best practices, and work towards common solutions.
Youth Empowerment Programs:

Implement programs that empower youth with skills, education, and positive activities, reducing their vulnerability to recruitment by drug trafficking networks.
Media Campaigns:

Use media channels to disseminate anti-drug messages and promote the negative consequences of drug trafficking. Positive role models and success stories of individuals who turned away from drugs can be highlighted.
Combating drug trafficking requires sustained efforts, collaboration, and a focus on both preventive and enforcement measures. It's essential to address the underlying socio-economic factors while simultaneously strengthening law enforcement and international cooperation.
