A father of four identified as Chris Ozobia from Onitsha in Anambra state has commited suicide in Enugu.

Ozobia, who's in his 40s reportedly took his own life at his block industry located at Ugbo Owa, by old airport road, Emene, Enugu on Sunday 3rd March, 2024.

Journalist101 learnt that the man left behind four children and a wife. His children are between 3-9 years old and lives at standard layout by tarmac school, Emene Enugu.

Speaking to Journalist101, one of the friends of the deceased who craved for anonymity, said Ozobia took his own life in his workplace after lying to his wife to leave the house.

He said the lifeless body was discovered the next day, Monday, 4th March, 2024 after his wife and child found his phone at home switched off.

His words:

"Only him knew why he left, he dropped no note, hence, nobody knows why took this decision because he's full of life and likes enjoying himself. He took his life at his block industry which is located at Ugbowa along the old airport road.

"He left his house on Sunday morning and told his wife was going to see his cement dealer that sells at Penoks junction. When the wife waited for so long without him coming back, he tried calling him but his number was switched off.

"The wife began to raise alarm because the husband's number being switched off is uncommon. She came out and starting calling for help and her daughter saw his phone switched off in their room.

"The next day, the woman went to his block industry to look for him and found him lying down lifeless. The police came and took his remains away but has released same to the neighbourhood that helped in putting him in the morgue.

"A lot of stories are flying around but we just learnt he took two big bottles of sniper which he bought at Eke Obinagu market.

"Ozobia is a graduate of University of Benin and was never known to have any tendency of suicide. They're a struggling family, his kids are still in primary school and needs help because they're a struggling," he said.

The hardship is real.
Businesses are collapsing, people are struggling to feed themselves talkless of family.
Imagine a situation where you have to spend 3 times what you are used to to feed, twice to transport, and twice to pay bills.
You are cumulatively looking at a situation where your cumulative expenses have increased by about 10times and your income(if you are lucky to have any) has remained the same or even diminished.
10times additional expenses is just unbearable and unattainable for many,so frustration and depression set in and if you are not string enough, you start entertaining thiughts of suicide.
But leaving his kids is a poor decision because if not for anything else,he should have looked at the kids and soldiered on.

An ozobia from onitsha can never experience hardship that will make them commit suicide. Nnamdi Ozobia the patriarch of the family made billions through overseas ship building contracts after his stint as Nigerdock boss. He has close to 100 properties in GRA Onitsha alone. If this news is true then the young man may have been diagnosed with an ailment he doesn’t want anybody to know and hence took his own life. If the wife is meticulous and knows how to manage money, the block industry he left behind can feed her and the kids well and also send them to school

Why did the wife immediately raised alarm when she called and discover that her husband's phone was switched off and how did she knew he was in his block industry? This might be an attack planned by somoene within.. forget the two bottles of snipper thing. All na wash..

I doubt this is a case of hardship. He deals on block industry and is making money.

That is what bad mental state looks like, everything can be going well or even if not too well for someone, but the person would just be suicidal.

We need psychologist to open practice in Nigeria, it's long overdue, a trained person people can just book and talk to so that they feel better. I use to think Whites are Lilly livered that is why they need them but seeing current happenings, I think we need it too

So many shrinks in Nigeria; very very little patronage! Africans don't give much attention to mental health and it's sad...
