The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that no security system, not even creation of state police as being proposed by the Nigerian government will save Nigeria from disintegration. IPOB said this in a statement issued by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, while reacting to President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government’s recent move to establish State Police in the country. Powerful however stated that IPOB supports the creation of regional police but it is against State Police, noting that the proposal to establish State Police is a strategy to capture all states into one APC party. It is not meant to curtail insecurity and insurgency in the country. Nigerians should shine their eyes. “If Tinubu's government is sincere to curtail insecurity and insurgency ravaging the country, they should establish Regional Police, not State Police. No state government can handle insecurity alone without the support of their neighbouring states. “Moreso, creating State Police will provide an opportunity for pro-terrorist governors to provide a safe haven for criminals and terrorists in their state. But a Regional Police command can forestall such a situation. “Finally, many governors in Nigeria today are tyrants even without full authority over the Security Forces. You can imagine what they will do if they have authority over murderous and corrupt Security Forces like the Nigeria Police Force,” Powerful stated. According to him, the Federal Government and the National Assembly have the constitutional right to establish regional police commands if they so wish. He said that “Since the constitution recognises six regions in Nigeria, then such regions should be empowered by law to establish police commands. “Such Regional Police Command should comprise indigenous officers from the region, and they should report to the governance structure of that region, which includes the governors forum and other stakeholders and leaders in the region. “In the old Eastern Region, which was later partitioned to South East and South South, we are one people, and all the States are interlocked and connected. Hence, State Police can't work in our region. “But establishing regional police is very possible and will be advantageous for the region. After all, Amotekun in South West is a regional vigilante formed by the people and governors of South Western Nigeria. “The effort of the Nigerian government to reduce security forces from the national to state or local government is an effort in futility because the country was conceptualised in fraud and destined to collapse. “The collapse of the National Security systems and the call for State Police means that no one believes in the contraption called Nigeria anymore. People believe in their tribes, ethnicity, and not in Nigeria. “No form of cosmetic security system will save Nigeria from disintegration.” 2 Likes

Wetin concern IPOB with wetin Nigeria does? Afterall shebi una wan comot Nigeria? So why is Ipob bothered about state policing or not? P.S. Individual state policing is better than regional police. With regional police,it will be easier for a region to want to break away so state policing is better 13 Likes 2 Shares |

happney65: Because ipob is not a genuine secessionist organization. It is an organization set up to frighten Abuja into giving more money to the igbos from the national cake. Every region in this country has a similar grouping. Or movement. Not all of them are secessionist. Not all of them are discrete organisations. 20 Likes 2 Shares |

Ipob you are a proscribed organization, you have no say in national matters, you don't even have a say in matters that concerns igbos. Ipob you are a problem to southeast, southeast needs state police to flush you and your people out. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

The problem with the police in Nigeria is simple...we are spending one tenth of what the city of New York uses to police 10-20 million people to police 220 million or more people. Infact it is a wonder that we haven't degenerated into total anarchy. As a result, the police is poorly equipped and poorly funded. And as for corruption...well, with limited funding comes opportunities for corruption. Throw in the fact that we don't have a good system of records. Mind you, our records system has drastically improved compared to 20-30 years ago, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Also, our universities are badly funded...which limits the abilty to provide good forensic people, good forensic services, and even research for better forensic methods. State police won't improve the matter. It may give the psychologic image of more boots on the ground, but with most states being unable to pay salaries , or even pay improved minimim wage years after the thing was improved, I fail to see how they would fund and pay for a state police....unless they charged the kind of tax they do oversease at oversease tax rate. Nigerians would cry well well . 14 Likes 1 Share |

He made a fair criticism though Some governors cannot be trusted with power, arguably some political parties can't be trusted either... State police would work best in a country without sharp ethnic and religious lines, I think they have to structure it in a way so that there must some form of weak central authority. |

What is IPOB? Before and during election they will do everything within their power to disrupt election in SE but after election they will come up with their useless opinion advising elected leaders. 2 Likes |

Johnjustice: South east needs regional police. Just imagine giving Imo state a state police. Is the state not romancing with the ruling party? It's dangerous to give those state governors too much power. The only people against ipob idea are the mischievous ones who are planning to use state police for oppressive acts. |
Re: Ipob Opposes Creation Of State Police, Says Regional Police Is Preferred by Johnjustice: 3:32pm On Mar 09 |
9japride:Let responsible Igbo people speak out for what they want for southeast, the rest of Nigeria is not anyone's business, it's state by state, if any state like they should not protect their people. It's mischievous to talk about other states, focus on your state, other southeasterners might want it. All man for himself. I thought it's bokoharam and Fulani herdsmen that will complain, by Ipob complaining it shows Ipob have bad plans, and is scared the state police will thwart it. Ipob your days are numbered. 1 Like |

Johnjustice: State police could have been a better option if the country democracy was matured. A situation the head of power controls judiciary, security and all major government bodies close to 100% is not too good. Simple thing as election can't be held properly and it's state policing that you think they can handle? The system is just too messed up and the kind of leaders we have are just power hungry set people. 1 Like |

9japride:Speak for your state and region, before we were merged into this country, we were different regions. Other regions and states is not your business. If your state don't want state police don't get one. Please speak for your state and region, your opinion on other states is inconsequential. |

Re: Ipob Opposes Creation Of State Police, Says Regional Police Is Preferred by NPFLADMIN(m): 5:57pm On Mar 09 |
Supported! Regional police is way better. Tho they will be controlled by the state. Constant redeployment in and out of the state makes the difference. That way governors won't turn them into minions. For example, SW has two PDP and four APC. Regional police will help to keep their activities in check. |
