Gunmen Kill Amokachi’s Brother by loabb2(m): 1:28am On Nov 14, 2011
Two gunmen suspected to be armed robbers yesterday killed Super Eagles Assistant Coach, Daniel Amokachi’s younger brother, Tehimbi Emmanuel Ayuwa at his phone call center in front of Amokachi father’s residence at Zuba Road, close to Police College in Kaduna.

The 23-year-old man was shot by two men who stormed his kiosk on a motorbike and demanded he surrendered the proceeds of his sales from his GSM recharge cards and call transactions business for the day.
Emmanuel was shot in his right thigh in front of the house’s main gate while he was trying to flee from the hoodlums with his money.

When Daily Sun visited Amokachi’s aged father, Mr. Ikwulechin Amokachi, he said he heard sounds suspected to be gunshots and then later heard the voice of his wife shouting and crying for help outside the gate of the main house.

“My grand daughter helped me out of the house where I met him in the pool of his own blood wailing in pains. I immediately called the police who arrived and assisted him into one of my neighbor’s car to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital where he eventually died.

“Before now, I had warned him to be vigilant, but now, they have killed him. He is a very gentle and resourceful person who just recently graduated from two years carpentry apprenticeship.“He had always told me that he would want to be a man of his own and would want to struggle to make it despite his brother’s background and look at how he was murdered in cold blood because of small money.

“I do not know what this country is turning into, if an innocent struggling young man who sells ordinary recharge card would be waylaid and killed for meager amount of money,” the older Amokachi lamented.

Commenting on the incident, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Lawal Bawa whose house is a stone throw from Amokachi’s house where the incident occurred, lamented that the state of insecurity and the killing of the victim were not unexpected. “It’s all as a result of injustice in the country. These killings are no longer new, it has been happening almost on a daily basis in Nigeria now. However, this is a bit unusual for someone to be shot dead over proceeds from recharge card sales.

“I am pleading with the government to do something more pragmatic, let them try as much as possible to engage these youths by means of creating employment opportunities, so that all these unemployed youths get something doing.

“In addition, I assure you that, the very moment most of these youths are gainfully engaged, the increasing wave of insecurity, be it MEND, Boko Haram or Yan kalare in Gombe or armed robbery would be reduced to the bearest minimum,” Bawa opined.

When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relation Office (PPRO) of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawal, said the police would do everything possible to apprehend the hoodlums, adding that investigations were on to get to the root of the incident.
