The former vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar alongside some ex-governors and senators has planned to forge a major party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Though Atiku contested for the presidency in the 2023 elections against Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he did not win.

Yari also lost his campaign for Senate President to Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu's chosen candidate.

According to insiders, Atiku has begun planning the potential mega party in partnership with some National Assembly members.

Atiku's team is concerned about the PDP's disarray and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike's overwhelming influence on the opposition party.

According to the source, Atiku and his allies are considering a repeat of the 2013 scenario, in which Muhammadu Buhari's Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) merged with Tinubu's Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to form a mega party.
