Peter Obi Condemns Retaliatory Arson Attacks in Delta Community, Reiterates Justice Amid Rising Tensions

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi has condemned the troubling emergence of reports detailing arson attacks by soldiers of the Nigerian Army in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area in Delta State.

Earlier today, the prominent Nigerian figure joined voices across the nation in condemning the tragic killing of security personnel engaged in a peacekeeping mission within a community in Delta State.

However, amidst the condemnation, emerging reports have shed light on disturbing developments within the affected community, where reports of arson attacks have surfaced.

In a stark warning against the cycle of violence, Obi emphasized that retaliatory actions such as arson cannot right the wrongs of the initial tragedy. Highlighting the potential loss of innocent lives and the displacement of communities,

Writing on his X handle on Sunday, Obi said, “Earlier today, I added my voice to that of other Nigerians in condemning in the strongest terms, the mindless killing of security personnel who were on a peacekeeping mission in a community in Delta State.

“The act remains censured and accursed by all right thinking Nigerians. However, the emerging disturbing reports of the community being under arson attack is equally unpalatable and wrong headed.”

Emphasizing the possibility of innocent lives being endangered and the displacement of communities, Obi urged for a concerted effort to bring the perpetrators of the original crime to justice through established legal channels.

“In all situations, two wrongs cannot produce a right. Reprisal arson attacks on the community cannot compensate for the original wrong of the killing of the soldiers. It is most likely that innocent lives will be lost in these reprisal attacks and innocent citizens who had no hand in the ugly crimes, may be rendered homeless by the unwanton destruction of the community. The correct and civilized thing to do is to put all machinery in place to apprehend the real perpetrators of the original ignoble act and bring them to book.”

He further added, “As painful as the act may be, I appeal to the security agencies to be considerate and avoid transferring their anger to hapless members of the community. I have also learnt that the Government of Delta State, had been on top of this situation before it escalated.

“I urge the Governor not to relent but to put in more effort to ensure minimal damage. In this regard, he needs the involvement of all community leaders to calm the nerves.

“Once again, my heart goes out in sympathy to all the bereaved in this unfortunate incident as I pray God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest.”

Peter Obi should STFU

NOTHING CAN SAVE THAT COMMUNITY AGAIN, DEM DON BUY MARKET THEIR GENERATIONS WILL EVEN PAY FOR....
Believe me, that community is FOREVER DOOMED.
Whatever they're disputing on, which is probably land will forever be seized by government and will become government property.

I know many of the people who carried out the attack will have left the community and state that very day, but many of them will still be caught and killed brutally. Una no know who Nigerian army be...
They have spy... They have informants... They even have their own criminals that help them do their DIRTY JOBS...

Una papa, mama, relatives, animals and properties that you people left behind will first be used as scapegoats. grin

When we say Peter Obi has nothing upstairs, they abuse us. Here’s another evidence of his emptiness. The Nigerian army must retaliate and level off that community to send a strong message.

We condemn the killing of soldiers under any circumstances but if northern villages are burnt because soldiers are killed, by now there will be no north. FACT👌

It's a shame how you guys celebrate evil and come online to embarras yourselves.
I pray one day you experience what you wish others. One day within your premises or your village let some useless bad boys kill some soldiers. Let your innocent parents run away from their village for fear of attack. Let all your houses be burnt down for something you know nothing about. You will surely become a victim of a circumstance. Better repent. You people have evil sown in your hearts. SHAME

In a free, fair, and credible electoral process, Peter Obi will defeat Tinubu again and again.

He did it in 2023; the beating became so embarrassing that INEC had to shut down the IREV portal and conjure up numbers for him to be able to win.

ok ooo but if your breadwinner is among the Army killed by Thugs . Words will also sweet for your mouth like this? Nothing make a country to stand than security. If some civilians can organise themselves to be above the security of the country by killing Majors and soldiers then soldier too need to tell them who they are to send a reasonable messages to those who are planning same thing for them in the future. If your parents are in that villages then they are the failed parents for the bad upbringing of those children that brought unrest for them. Media's condemnation has no impact than to let them feel the type of jeudgenmt they melted on Innocent soldiers . Or are you telling me the soldiers killed are not Innocent too?

I realised that South East and South South are always vehemently opposed to our soldiers burning down communities anytime a soldier gets killed and rather wants the soldiers to go after the culprits but it seems many people in some areas especially the South West will always call for erasing that community from the map. You can checkout the comments on Twitter.

While we condemn in strong terms the unfortunate killing of our soldiers but we should never encourage
arson and brigandage against innocent citizens over an action carried out by some miscreants in their midst because it's not happening in our own area, this is the same way a coup carried out by a few soldiers who didn't consult their people was termed "Igbo coup" by British media which culminated into a brutal civil war that cost millions of lives

Nigeria policemen recently killed a lawyer, father, breadwinner who was returning after paying ransom. If we are to follow your mindset, the community of the policemen involved in this killing should be burnt while the guilty policemen walk freely.
