The dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram, has reportedly enlisted more volunteers willing to embark on suicide attacks across the North-Eastern flank of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) even as security forces have intensified the heat on the group’s known locations in the bid to cripple its activities.


Intelligence goons, who uncovered the move, have returned to the drawing board on how to deal with the situation, Sunday Sun authoritatively learnt at the weekend in Abuja.

The number of Boko Haram volunteers for the planned suicide missions was put at between 20 and 31 by top security sources, who also hinted that intelligence reports revealed that those who offered their lives for the attacks earlier scheduled to take place in some key northern cities, including Bauchi, Kaduna and Abuja, had undertaken an oath as a mark of commitment.



The oath, according security sources, was administered to the volunteers at secret locations in two unnamed North-Eastern states, and preparations for spontaneous attacks by members of the sect were on top gear when it leaked to the police and other agencies in the intelligence community.

“We have intelligence reports that some members of Boko Haram have taken an oath and volunteered to go on suicide missions in some parts of the country. We already know all those who went on earlier missions, as well as some of the new volunteers. We have a list of these people, and we are working on how to checkmate them.

“But in doing so, we are also strategising on several approaches.

And these include a carrot and stick method. I can also tell you that at present, there are some members of the sect who are favourably disposed to dialogue, and all options would definitely be explored towards achieving set goals. But I can assure you that the Boko Haram saga would soon come to an end,” a top security chief who does not want his name in print confided yesterday.
