Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial District, chaired the Nigerian Senate Joint Committee Meeting on Refined Petroleum Theft on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Security and Defense Forces Nigeria Civil and Nigeria Customs Service. Senator Ubah stressed the need for a collaborative effort to combat crude oil theft in Nigeria, stressing its detrimental effects on the economy and the environment. He called for greater transparency and accountability in the oil industry to prevent corruption and collusion with criminal elements.

The Joint Committee discussed strategies such as increasing surveillance and patrolling, improving intelligence gathering and sharing, and improving the legal framework for prosecuting offenders.

The meeting concluded with a commitment by all stakeholders to work together to combat crude oil theft in Nigeria.

Senator Ubah expressed gratitude to the Chairmen of the Senate Committees on Oil (Upstream), Gas, Niger Delta and Host Communities, who are also co-chairmen of the Joint Committee, for their commitment to ending this economic crime. He expressed confidence that concrete steps will be taken to address this urgent issue.
