A current Super Eagles player who has preferred to remain anonymous have warned the Nigeria football federation on appointing an indigenous coach for the Super Eagles.


According to the player, no indigenous coach can manage the crop of players currently in the Super Eagles, he revealed that tactics wasn’t what really helped the Super Eagles succeed under Jose Pesiro but his ability to man manage the squad was all that was needed.



According to the Super Eagles player;

” It’s funny how many people don’t know that it’s not about tactics with the Super Eagles but man management. In that regard Peseiro has no equal. See how he managed the Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong situation. Can a local coach do that? Do you know the ego in that team at all?” he told OwnGoalNigeria.com.



There will always be clashes, but unless you have managed at this level you can’t manage it.

” For now I am not sure any Super Eagles player want an indigenous coach and like Ekong said we are all rooting for Peseiro to keep his job as coach” he rounded up saying.




A decision on who will lead the senior national team of Nigeria is expected to be made in the coming days following the expiration of the contract of former coach Jose Peseiro, who guided the team to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro who lead the team to their best finish in 11 years, before they were beaten 1-0 by the host in the final announced the expiration of his deal, bidding farewell to the team but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to confirm his exit with talks continuing over extending his deal



A deadline of the end of March has been set for an agreement with both parties not at par on what his monthly earnings will be like. The NFF proposed $50,000 a month pay while the coach is demanding for $120000 a month. A new offer of $80,000 has been lodged by the football body.

Meanwhile former super Eagles player Emmanuel Amunike is touted to have already agreed a pre contract agreement to manage the senior football team of Nigeria with George Finidi acting as his assistant.

I support that assertion. There's an extent to which NFF can, in their usual way, arm twist a foreign coach. Most players, especially, the so called big boys among them will not respect any indigenous coach. We need someone who will not share his salary with some official in the glass house or have played imposed on him.
We don't have the culture of respect for people's jobs in Nigeria. People like Amokachi, Taribo West etc will drag that indigenous coach from day one and make sure he is discredited out of office for selfish reasons.

I swear if NFF bow to Nigerians pressure like they do poor to 2022 world cup qualification I sorry for them. Winning a Ten man Ghana team who had not won a game since almost over a year is not an achievement. Next Nigerian job should not.be given base on sentimental
