...Promises support for Esit Eket Students

The Esit Eket youngest Ph.D. holder, Ubong Ekerenam Etang, has launched his own university intervention health initiative tagged: Ubong Etang Gown And Town Initiative (UBEGTI) to cater for public health especially, the vulnerable people in society, Sunday 24th March, 2024.

The launching/reception which had Elder Nsikan Mathew, as Chairman, CSP John Inyang Abia, Keynote Speaker, Hon. Iniobong Robson, Special Guest of Honour, and Prof. Anietie Effiong Moses as Keynote Speaker 11, took place at the City View Hall, Watbridge Hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State during the reception of the Conferment of Doctor of Philosophy-Ph.D in Medical Micro-Biology and Parasitology from the University of Calabar, Nigeria.

According to Dr. Ubong, who unveiled the initiative himself, the essence of UBEGTI is to leverage his Ph.D. achievement to reach out to his community.

"The mission of the Ubong Etang Gown and Town Initiative (UBEGTI) is to empower postgraduate students in Esit Eket, particularly those studying Medical Microbiology or public health related courses, by providing research grants and fostering collaboration between academia and the local community".

The Etebi born scholar further stated that "Our vision is to create a symbiotic relationship between the academic world and the Esit Eket community, where research initiatives not only advance knowledge but also directly contribute to improving public health outcomes and quality of life to the Esit Eket people".

Dr. Ubong E. Etang was born on the 22nd day of April into the family of Ekerenam Etang Isangedighi. He is the second son and the third child in the family of five. His parents are renowned primary school teachers both from Etebi in Esit Eket Local Government Area.

He had his both primary and secondary education in Esit Eket, respectively. Proceeded to the prestigious University of Calabar for his first degree where he graduated in 2012 as the overall best student with a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology (B.Sc. in Microbiology).

The young Dr. Etang had his Masters at the University of Uyo and returned to his alma mater in Calabar for his Ph.D. program where he now become a first-class expert in Medical Microbiology and Parasitology.
