It's no longer news that the Nigeria military is presently operating in Okuama community in south-south Nigeria. The disturbing news, however emanating from the region, is modus operandi of the Nigeria military, and this has led to the following observations. I don't expect this piece to hit front page.

1.DEEP SITTED HATRED: From the manner with which the military is razing the communities "associated" with the death of the soldiers, one would think Nigeria is at war with the region. The Nigeria government, under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has deliberately prevented every form investigation into the actual cause of the death of the "gallant" soldiers. They did not even allow the state governor to visit the communities and get a first hand information of what actually happened and what is presently taking place there. Even when a senator representing the region asked for a minute silence for the innocents he was shouted down. If not HATRED, how best do you describe such behaviors towards a people.

2.ENVY AND JEALOUSY: From the comments here on this forum, coming from the northern and the southwestern part of this country, expressing their wish for the region, one doesn't need a crystal ball to see the level of jealousy and envy they have towards the south-southerners. Everyone from the south-south, whether Ijaw, Urhobo, Edo, Ibibio, etc, must take notes of these happenings for posterity's sake.

3. PERPETUAL SUBJUGATION: There's a grand scheme by the northerners and the southwesterners to perpetually subjugate the people of the south-south so as to continually plonder their resources, that's why the Nigeria state always employ the show of brute force whenever there's a fracas in the region in order to intimidate and suppress the people into submission. Only time will tell how long this methods will work.

4. CREATE DIVISION AMONG THE PEOPLE: Owing to the fact that the northerners and the southwesterners see the south-south as their cash cow, in order to have unfiltered access to their resources, they deliberately look out for sellouts who can be used to create division in the region and give this individual mouthwatering offers that ensure the continuity of their sinister agendas.

THE WAY FORWARD.

1. ENCOURAGE OUR YOUTHS TO MASSIVELY JOIN THE MILITARY: Our youths in the south-south must be encouraged to join the military. State governors must see to it that the slot given to the region is completely utilized by indigenes of the states making up the region. This can be achieved by creating a special fund, aside the federal government salaries, for military personnel of the region. This will make the military attractive, and in the future, it will prevent any form of repressive tendencies being presently experienced in the south-south and southeast from the Nigeria military, as there will be many opposing voices within the military as being usually seen when similar events occur in the north.

2. DELIBERATE SUPPORT FOR OUR POLITICAL AND RELIGIOUS LEADERS. Any of political leader who champions the interest of our region must be supported irrespective of whatever political party he belongs. For the selfish ones among us, we should not destroy them in public, we should rather device ways of using their selfishness to our advantage. The strong men in our region should never again be handed to the government to be prosecuted for whatever "crime" they may have allegedly commit. We must protect them at all cost, after all, it's our money that was "stolen" .

3. OUR FIRST ALLEGIANCE MUST BE TO OUR GEOPOLITICAL ZONE: Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, once said, "Yoruba comes first, thereafter, Nigeria". This is the same mindset of the northerners. Our political, religious and traditional leaders must ensure that their first allegiance must be to our region. Our men in the military and police must use their heads whenever they are deployed to intimidate and manhandle their own people. A word is enough for the wise.

4. POLITICAL AND MILITARY ALLIANCE: The people of the south-south must forge a very strong military alliance with the people of the southeast as they share a common enemy. After all, these two regions have a lot of similarities in terms of culture, religion and political ideologies, and they've equally experienced the same brutality from the northerners and southwesterners. They must deliberately reorientate their minds towards the Igbos by eschewing the age-long propaganda and gaslighting, that the Igbos are not to be trusted. Time and again, has proven that the Igbos are trustworthy. They have never for ones betray the people of the south-south, and a military alliance with them will send a very strong message to the common foes.

5. SUPPORT OUR CHRISTIAN LEADERS: The people of south-south should without hesitation desist from attending churches headed by the southwesterners and northerners and start attending our own churches. One thing I have noticed is that the southwesterners only attach importance to our financial contribution to growth of churches headed by them. They don't care about the growth of the people of the south-south. A typical example is the protest staged against former President Goodluck Jonathan which was led by a prominent southwesterner. None of their religious(church) leaders has ever criticize this government policies, not even the renowned Daddy G.O. has even express some level of sympathy towards the innocent people of Okuama, some of which are his "children in the Lord". Everyone in the south-south should wakeup from their slumber. Any means by which you can spread this message should be done without delay.

6. OUR INTELLECTUALS AND ACADEMIA MUST DEVELOP DEFENSIVE MECHANISM FOR THE REGION: Scientists that are of the south-south extraction, home and in diaspora, must start bringing their expertise to bare in advancing the development of the region militarily and otherwise. There are many islands and remote places where defense factory can be sited clandestinely. Israel is a powerful nation not because they're populated, but as a result of their defense capabilities even when they dwell in midst of deadly enemies. This is where the military alliance between the south-south and the southeast matters most. Please, spread this message, our collective survival strongly depends on this.

7. ESCHEW OUR NEGATIVE DIFFERENCES: The south-south region consists of several ethnic group and diversities. Like the Americans, we should use these diversities to our advantage. The Ijaws, Urhobos, Binis, Esans, Etsakos, Ikweres, Itsekiris, Ibibio, Efik, etc must promote unity amongst us and never allow outsiders to turn us against ourselves. We must deliberately eschew communal clashes. Disagreement between ourselves must never degenerate to violence. When brothers fight to the death strangers loot their wealth. This is what the military is presently doing in the south-south. The piece continues..

The last thing I would do is to beg anyone down South to see the truth... Let them mingle with who they want to

A child would want to put his hand in the fire, if you keep removing it they would think you are doing them evil

Let's keep playing the long game ... You would see people who would want to be vice after Tinubu, you would still see people who would contest again when presidency returns to the south again

Relax... Politics is a long time game

Op you have spoken well and Southwesters will start attacking you or gaslighting you. Unfortunately, most of so-called South South have not fully waken up to the games Northerners and particulary Southwesterners are playing except the Ibibio and Efik people. You see, an ordinary Ibibio and Efik man understands One Nigeria very well than so-called SS people. They experienced the brute force of the war just like Igbos and saw Adenkunle murdered thousands of their men. When Adenkule was asked why he targeted Ibibio men, he said they are also Igbos. That's why you hardly see or hear an Ibibio or Efik man identify as Niger Deltan or South Southerner.

grin grin

I have been saying it here always that we the Niger deltans should come together and identify & know who our enemies really are.

When I state these glaring facts thesame haters of our people here on Nairaland Label me Igbo biafra, Ipob. grin grin

Make no mistake about it, I love my Igbo neigbours & brothers without apologies because that same hatred & envy they displayed towards our people in Delta state recently is thesame one they display towards our Igbo neigbours & brothers since before the civil war, using divide and rule since after the civil war.

They said they wanted to clean up Ogoniland since but today that place is worse than ever before.

The hatred , jealousy envy they have for us in the Niger Delta is the reason they fear the exposure of our people to identify the true enemies of the Niger Deltas.

Akpabio, wike, are the clowns they are using to Sabotage & divide us in the Niger Delta. They have used Rotimi Ameachi & he has been dumped & today he has been crying ever since, licking his wöunds like the sore looser he is.

GEJ our fine Gentleman waa disgraced out of Office with thesame thoughts of hatred & jealousy. They hated him sö much that they had to find a lie that gej was clueless. Today who is more clueless than Buhari and Tinubu grin grin

They hated gej so much because he said he made our true brothers the back bone of his administration grin

They are killing our people thesame way their brother Obasanjo massacred our community in odi

We aee already restrategizing. That togetherness they hate & fear to see between Niger Deltans & the Igbos will soon blow their minds away

Niger Deltans know your enemies grin

@OP
The south east you mentioned too does not like the south south. The solution is for the south south to unite as one and form a political party, then the south south will have a strong voice
