Do you know that Celestine Babayaro is now broke? A lot of you know this guy. He was undoubtedly a talented left-back, a standout for the Super Eagles, showcased his prowess for Nigeria in both youth categories and during their triumphant 1996 Olympics campaign.
Babayaro graced the ranks of renowned clubs in England and Belgium throughout his career.
During a significant period, he stood as one of the highest-paid African footballers globally, commanding weekly wages between £25,000 and $30,000 while at Chelsea FC in England. However, a financial downturn led to his declaration of bankruptcy in a Croydon court in 2010, following pressure from creditors. The confirmation of his insolvency came in 2011.
Known for his lavish lifestyle in both Nigeria and England, Babayaro was reputed for extravagant purchases and a penchant for lively social gatherings. Reports circulated of his substantial expenditures on luxury items and his vibrant nightlife. His financial woes became apparent to neighbours, as his once meticulously maintained home began to show signs of neglect, with overgrown gardens and a dilapidated conservatory.

Ifanyi Udeze

Udeze emerged as another dynamic left-back for the Super Eagles, showcasing his talents between 2000 and 2004 following his rise from the triumphant Golden Eaglets. However, his fortunes took a sharp downturn as sources close to him disclosed that Udeze now finds himself deeply mired in debt. This comes after he reportedly squandered a significant portion of the wealth he amassed during his playing career on high-stakes gambling and extravagant indulgences.
During his active years, Udeze played for AEK Athens, PAOK FC, and West Brom. Additionally, it's been mentioned that he holds a particular fondness for locally brewed gin. Reports also suggest that he frequents street gambling spots in Ajegunle, his childhood neighborhood, often associating with less savory characters.

Taribo West

Taribo stands out as arguably Nigeria's most accomplished centre-back in history. During his peak, he earned recognition as one of Europe's finest defenders, playing a pivotal role for Inter Milan from 1997 to 1999 and contributing significantly to the Olympic gold-winning Dream Team in 1996.
