The Church Council of Laodicea (Phrygia – western Asia Minor) orders that religious observances are to be conducted on Sunday and not on Saturday. Sunday becomes the new Sabbath. The practice of staying at home and resting on Saturday declared sinful and anathema to Christ. 365 An imperial edict from Emperor Valens, a zealous Arian Christian (17th November), forbids pagan officers of the army to command Christian soldiers. 370 Valens orders a tremendous persecution of non-Christian peoples in all the Eastern Empire. In Antioch, among many other non-Christians, the ex-governor Fidustius and the priests Hilarius and Patricius are executed. The philosopher Simonides is burned alive and the philosopher Maximus is decapitated. All the friends of Julian are persecuted (Orebasius, Sallustius, Pegasius etc.). Tons of books are burnt in the squares of the cities of the Eastern Empire. 372 Valens orders the governor of Minor Asia to exterminate all the Hellenes and all documents of their wisdom. 373 New prohibition of all divination methods is issued. The term “pagan” (pagani, villagers, equivalent to the modern insult, “peasants”) is introduced by the Christians to demean non-believers. 375 The temple of Asclepius in Epidaurus, Greece, is closed down by the Christians. 380 On 27th February Christianity becomes the exclusive religion of the Roman Empire by an edict of the Emperor Flavius Theodosius, requiring that: "All the various nations which are subject to our clemency and moderation should continue in the profession of that religion which was delivered to the Romans by the divine Apostle Peter." The non-Christians are called “loathsome, heretics, silly and blind”. In another edict, Theodosius calls “insane” those that do not believe to the Christian God and outlaws all disagreement with the Church dogmas. Ambrosius, bishop of Milan, begins the destruction of pagan temples of his area. The Christian priests lead the hungry mob against the temple of goddess Demeter in Eleusis and try to lynch the hierophants Nestorius and Priskus. The 95 year old hierophant Nestorius ends the Eleusinian Mysteries and announces "the predominance of mental darkness over the human race." 381 At the Council of Constantinople the 'Holy Spirit' is declared 'Divine' (thus sanctioning a triune god). On 2nd May, Theodosius deprives of all their rights any Christians who return to the pagan religion. Throughout the Eastern Empire the pagan temples and libraries are looted or burned down. On 21st December, Theodosius outlaws visits to Hellenic temples. In Constantinople, the Temple of Aphrodite is turned into a brothel and the temples of the Sun and Artemis to stables. 382 “Hellelujah” (“Glory to Yahweh”) is imposed in the Christian mass. 384 Theodosius orders the Praetorian Prefect Maternus Cynegius, a dedicated Christian, to cooperate with local bishops and destroy the temples of the pagans in Northern Greece and Minor Asia. 385 to 388 Prefect Maternus Cynegius, encouraged by his fanatic wife, and bishop 'Saint' Marcellus with his gangs, scour the countryside and sack and destroy hundreds of Hellenic temples, shrines and altars. Among others they destroy the temple of Edessa, the Cabeireion of Imbros, the temple of Zeus in Apamea, the temple of Apollo in Dydima and all the temples of Palmyra. Thousands of innocent pagans from all sides of the empire suffer martyrdom in the notorious death camps of Skythopolis. 386 Theodosius outlaws the care of the sacked pagan temples. 388 Public talks on religious subjects are outlawed by Theodosius. The old orator Libanius sends his famous epistle “Pro Templis” to Theodosius with the hope that the few remaining Hellenic temples will be respected and spared. 389 to 390 All non-Christian calendars and dating-methods are outlawed. Hordes of fanatic hermits from the desert flood the cities of the Middle East and Egypt and destroy statues, altars, libraries and pagan temples, and lynch the pagans. Theophilus, Patriarch of Alexandria, starts heavy persecutions against non-Christian peoples, turning the temple of Dionysius into a Christian church, burning down the Mithraeum of the city, destroying the temple of Zeus and burlesques the pagan priests before they are killed by stoning. The Christian mob profanes the cult images. 391 On 24th February, a new edict of Theodosius prohibits not only visits to pagan temples but also looking at the vandalised statues. After a violent siege, the Christians take over the building, demolish it, burn its famous library and profane the cult images. 392 On 8th November, Theodosius outlaws all the non-Christian rituals and names them “superstitions of the gentiles” (gentilicia superstitio). New full scale persecutions are ordered against pagans. The Mysteries of Samothrace are ended and the priests slaughtered. In Cyprus the local bishop “Saint” Epiphanius and “Saint” Tychon destroy almost all the temples of the island and exterminate thousands of non-Christians. The local Mysteries of goddess Aphrodite are ended. Theodosius’s edict declares: “the ones that won’t obey pater Epiphanius have no right to keep living in that island.” The pagans revolt against the Emperor and the Church in Petra, Aeropolis, Rafia, Gaza, Baalbek and other cities of the Middle East. 393 The Pythian Games, the Aktia Games and the Olympic Games are outlawed as part of the Hellenic “idolatry”. The Christians sack the temples of Olympia. 395 Two new edicts (22nd July and 7th August) cause new persecutions against pagans. Rufinus, the eunuch Prime Minister of Emperor Flavius Arcadius directs the hordes of baptised Goths (led by Alaric) to the country of the Hellenes. The 15th Council of Chalcedon orders all the Christians that still keep good relations with their non-Christian relatives to be excommunicated (even after their death). 405 John Chrysostom sends hordes of grey-dressed monks armed with clubs and iron bars to destroy the “idols” in all the cities of Palestine. 406 John Chrysostom collects funds from rich Christian women to financially support the demolition of the Hellenic temples. In Ephesus he orders the destruction of the famous temple of Artemis. In Salamis, Cyprus, “Saints” Epiphanius and Eutychius continue the persecutions of the pagans and the total destruction of their temples and sanctuaries. 407 A new edict outlaws once more all the non-Christian acts of worship. 408 The emperor of the Western Empire, Honorius, and the emperor of the Eastern Empire, Arcadius, order all the sculptures of the pagan temples to be either destroyed or to be taken away. Private ownership of pagan sculpture is also outlawed. The local bishops lead new heavy persecutions against the pagans and new book burning. The judges that have pity for the pagans are also persecuted. “Saint” Augustine massacres hundreds of protesting pagans in Calama, Algeria. 409 Another edict orders all methods of divination including astrology to be punished by death. 415 In Alexandria, the Christian mob, urged by the bishop Cyril, attacks a few days before the Judeo-Christian Pascha (Easter) and cuts to pieces the famous and beautiful philosopher Hypatia. The pieces of her body, carried around by the Christian mob through the streets of Alexandria, are finally burned together with her books in a place called Cynaron. On 30th August, new persecutions start against all the pagan priests of North Africa who end their lives either crucified or burned alive. Emperor Theodosius II expels the Jews from Alexandria. 416 The inquisitor Hypatius, alias “The Sword of God”, exterminates the last pagans of Bithynia. In Constantinople (7th December) all non-Christian army officers, public employees and judges are dismissed. 423 Emperor Theodosius II declares (8th June) that the religion of the pagans is nothing more than “demon worship” and orders all those who persist in practicing it to be punished by imprisonment and torture. 429 The temple of goddess Athena (Parthenon) on the Acropolis of Athens is sacked. Among others, the physician Jacobus and the philosopher Gessius are executed. Severianus, Herestios, Zosimus, Isidorus and others are tortured and imprisoned. The proselytiser Conon and his followers exterminate the last non-Christians of Imbros Island, Northeast Aegean Sea. The last worshippers of Lavranius Zeus are exterminated in Cyprus. 482 to 488 The majority of the pagans of Minor Asia are exterminated after a desperate revolt against the emperor and the Church. 486 More “underground” pagan priests are discovered, arrested, burlesqued, tortured and executed in Alexandria, Egypt. full body baptism 515 Baptism becomes obligatory even for those that already say they are Christians. I certainly don't pray to a dead woman in the sky that isn't divinity my friend. Also the catholics killed other sorts of christians, not just the pagans and prohibited the owning of bibles back then. Catholicism is the result of pagans trying to wipe out Christianity by "absorbing" it into their systems and supressing what they couldn't absorb. Luckily all that is in the past. the church has marched on, and the gates of hell cannot and shall not prevail. |

One thing you would also see, roman catholicism was just a tool (like any religion) the romans used to dominate people. they found religion to be a useful tool in controlling people hence robbing people of the true joys of unhindered, pure worship to God. They religionized it and turned it into a weapon (making sure to add their own things into it from their own pagan religions, like Mary worship). So understand this very carefully when I tell you, catholicism is DIFFERENt than the rest of us. However, thank God that all who believe in the Jesus shall be saved, regardless of "religion" (the Devil's tool). |

The Christians did not commit any atrocities on pagans rather what they did was to correct the mis-normal these bunch of disillusioned introduced to the world. How can you allow people that practise human sacrifice to live? How can you believe in a tree or cement? If your mind is not twisted, you wouldn't be saying these rubbish. (just get that into your thick skull). therefore we humans can never whatsoever, feel TRUE DEVOTION to the Gods while praying to plain air, like them muslim do. we humans need a materialistic medium through which we can pray to the Gods. we are NOT worshipping the stone, wood or cement. NO. we are worshipping what it represents. we are worshipping what it symbolises. A PERSON WHO PRAYS TO THIN AIR, PRAYS JUST BECAUSE OF SOCIETY, OR HE IS FORCED. THERE IS NO TRUE DEVOTION INVOLVED. HOW CAN WE FEEL DEVOTION TO THIN AIR IMPOSSIBLE.I BET EVERYONE OF YOU PRESENT HERE, IMAGINES SOME PICTURE OF GOD, WHILE PRAYING TO him/her/it. if you deny this, then your are just a plain [size=32pt]LIAR[/size]. 3) SACRIFICE: WHAT IS A SACRIFICE A Sacrifice is when you offer something to some entity in return for something you want/need. when you want to earn money, you sacrifice your hardwork / when a mother wants to have a baby, she sacrifices her body to the cause / when an a lion wants its food, it sacrifices its energy in chasing the deer, etc In the same way, when we want something from the Gods, we sacrifice something in return. now this can be anything and is related to the type and nature of the sacrifice. usually (not always), it is the most precious thing we have at that moment or has to be something related to the the sacrifice. now this does not mean we sacrifice all our valuables and money. NO. it can be anything depending on the circumstance. for e.g. say an extremely rich farmer lives near the deserts, where there is hardly any rain. he has a lot of wealth but lives very far away from any settlement. his crops are all dead, due to lack of rain. He therefore, invokes God in the form of the Rain God. now he has to make a sacrifice in return for the rain. now what do you think is the most precious thing he has do you think its Gold NO. its not. the most precious thing he has at that moment, is the few grains he has and the little water he has left. So therefore , he sacrifices it to the Gods. and then he usually gets his rain. this is why sacrifices to the rain God are still performed even today around the world. because it works if done properly and conducted in a proper manner.now about human sacrifices. If goats, chicken and other animals are sacrificed, then why is it wrong for humans to be sacrificed. After all, arent we all equal creatures of God therefore it would only be fair to sacrifice humans also depending on the need for it. this is however done once in a while. The sacrificial offerings are usually humans in the form of prisoners of war (who were anyways executed), murders, r.apists and other criminal, etcby sacrificing such people as murderers, we do justice to society as a whole by punishing them and at the same time, we offer the criminal a chance by sacrificing him/her to the Gods and therefore, helping his soul. by performing a human sacrifice, all the evils of society are symbolically washed away for the time. Conclusion: different sacrifices have different roles. it is only for those who understand them, that ryly appreciate them.  |

The perversions of the Church Hierchy: The Pope, Bishops, Cardinals, Monks Etc., Along with the courts and the sadistic "Inquisitors" plunged Europe from the 13th to the 17th century into a merciless blood bath. The method used in the inquisitions maybe summed as follows: 1) The accused was guilty until proven guilty. 2) Suspicion, gossip, or denunciation was sufficient indication of guilt to hail a person before the inquisition. 3) All offenses were considred Heresey. This justified any action taken by the inquisitors. 4) No witness was allowed to testify on behalf of the accused. 5) The accused was permitted no counsel. 6) The judge were inquisitors and they were encouraged to trick the accused into confessing. 7) The practice of torture was regularly used and could be inflicted on any witness. It was a means to discover Heresy, by Pope Innocent IV in 1257 A.D., and it was not abolished until 1816 A.D. by Pope Paul VII.  Legal torture could not be repeated, but it could be, and was legally continued until the accused confessed whatever was demanded of him. Three sessions of torture were usual.9) Having confessed under torture the accused, in sight of the torture chamber, had to repeat his confession "Freely and Spontaneously, without torture!!! 10) Every acussed had to give or invent names of accomplices or those whom were suspected of Heresy. 11) Generally no appeal was countenanced. 12) The property of the accused was confiscated by the inquisition, all hopes praised this practice as one of the strongest weapons in the fight against heresy, confiscation was routine. As a result, as all records showed (and as the inqusition even admitted), once one was accused, the chances of escaping death were almost nonexistent. The Inquisition was used as a mean to get rid of POLITICAL THREATS and ENEMIES, to acquire LAND AND PROPERTY, and to literally force the masses into submitting to the church. |

chrisj2000: The widest definition of the term, PAGANISM refers to all religions that are not in the Abrahamic category (i.e. the monotheistic faiths with their origins in the Middle East, like Christianity, Judaism and Islam). now since almost ALL non judaeo-islamo-christianity religions are traditional religions/Polytheists/animists, etc, therefore i am using this term. IN GENERAL, i am using it for all the old religions pre-dating christianity, except for new Judaism, but including the now extinct, old Canaanite and Hebrew Pagan faiths (the old Idolatrous version of Judaism). |

the inquisiton also spread to South America, the Phillipines and Goa (India). 1000s of people are reported to have died, r.aped, forcefully converted, massacred, etc. The indigineous peoples suffered a lot. |

If a man starts a journey and finishes,he is rewarded.If a man starts and stops halfway,he is not better than the man who did not start at all.But when he that didnt start before takes up strength and finishes,he is better that the second,for it would be better if he did not start atall. But now,we dont have our own choices,we are set on a journey,its is not our own making but someone who is far more greater than us. No man is worthy before the creator,but it is better that you know the creator. The world is greater than its dwellers,the Creator is greater than the world. The more I study religions the more am proudly an Atheist. according to religion, a long and wicked life followed by five minutes of perfect grace gets you into Heaven. An equally long life of decent living and good works followed by one outburst of taking the name of the Lord in vain - then have a heart attack at that moment and be damned for eternity in hell. the Pagan Rleigions do not have a heaven like islam or christian. the only thing remotely similar to Heaven is the abode of the Gods (humans do not enter it). This abode is synonymoust to the infinite universe, which can also mean nothing. yet it can also mean everything. 1 Like |
