Following a defamation and cyberstalking petition filed last week by gospel artiste, Nathaniel Bassey, against four Facebook users, one of them, Kingsley Ibe, has apologised to the singer and fellow counterpart, Mercy Chinwo.

Ibe also turned himself into police custody.

He and three others alleged that Bassey fathered the son of a fellow popular gospel singer, an allegation that went viral on X.

The three other social media users, identified in the petition are Okoronkwo Ejike, Terrence Ekot and Dj Spoiltkid.

A press statement released by Bassey’s legal representatives on Monday disclosed that ”The police have taken his statement together with other incontrovertible evidence ready for prosecution over criminal defamation and cyber-related offences.”

It also noted that the accused had shown remorse for his actions and was committed to redeeming himself

”Mr. Ibe has shown true repentance for his actions and made a commitment to turn a new leaf and become a more responsible member of society.”

”His aged mother and family members have also apologized on his behalf, and I have decided to extend a hand of fellowship and love towards him.”

I Take Full Responsibility For My Actions

In an apology video made by Ibe on Monday, he stated he regretted his ”reckless;” statement adding that he was not under duress to make the video

”To you pastor Nathaniel Bassey, I express my sincere apology to you for the comment I made on social media and to your family as well.”

”I know the damages it has caused and I take full responsibility and I am deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart,”
he said

”To his fans and followers, to his ministry, the hallelujah challenge and the RCCG Oasis

”I am also a fan of pastor Nathaniel Bassey for the past years and I did not make those comments with the intent to cause harm or evil and I am deeply deeply sorry.”

He also apologised to gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo and her family adding that his utterances might have far-reaching implications but were not with any form of malice

”To minster Chinwo, I know I don’t deserve your mercy but I am deeply and I ask you to forgive me ”

”To the baby I know my message was harsh and might cause a negative impact”

Defamation and cyberstalking are serious offenses. Accepting apologies alone may not suffice. Prosecution in accordance with the law is necessary to deter others from similar actions. Justice must be served to uphold the integrity of the law and protect individuals from unwarranted attacks on social media.

Cho Cho Cho Cho Cho online..they could have still echoed the same reaction that most including me had when we saw the picture and the uncanny resemblance.

'Omo this child really does look like Nathaniel Bassey o' and that would have been enough. Ain't no one can sue you for defamation for noticing a striking resemblance between two entities. But no they had to talk about 'away match' and 'calls for DNA test' on top something wey u no get any evidence of and wey no even concern you.

Continue the prosecution with others

You can't just go online and make such weighty allegations, you don't even know either party personally

You dey craze.i will even be more disappointed at Nathaniel if he doesn't continue to pursue the case undecided

Yes I love Nathaniel.he has used his talents to the glory of God and to draw men to God but christians have been way too tolerant of constant disrespect that the tolerance itself is beginning to look like stupidity and foolishness undecided

More irritating is the fact that any 1d10t cam just go on social media, slander anyone and when the person decides to press charges comes out to apologize like that should just end because you apologized? A wicked lie capable of not just destroying Nathaniel and mercy's marriages,it is capable of bringing disrespect, disrepute and confusion to the body of Christ.even the christians themselves don't respect the sanctity of Christianity and that's why clowns have become comfortable disrespecting Christians

Apologies will not be acceptable.
There should be consequences, which will teach the others

If Nathaniel hadn't gone legal or petitioned the I.G.,would they still have apologised?

No matter what happens, this episode is sure to be a lesson for others who castigate and speak ill of other people without justification and proof.

If you are one of those fond of lying against others, attacking and insulting people without regard, you better repent and change your ways.

You are at liberty to make their choices but not at liberty to determine its consequences

Just for likes, follows and engagement, you decide to make unsubstantiated allegations against as person you know nothing about but access to data is cheap

Now the person ask u to come and prove what u calm u know, u are begging. If u want to take full responsibility for ur actions, let the law run its course

When he has spent some time in prison, he would know better than to write nonsense, tarnishing ones hard earned reputation

As you be lion online, continue to be a lion offline

To Chinwo I don't deserve your Mercy.
He still dey drop lines. Your eye go soon clear.lol
Even though Nataliel Bassey will forgive him or has already forgiven him, actions have consequences.
Consequences on the image and marriages of Nataniel basset and Mercy Chinwo and their respective ministries and followers.

Consequences as also stipulated in the Nigerian constitution. There's a judgment against cyber stalking, libel, defamation of character and misleading the public. This should serve as a deterrent to other social media abusers. Everyday for the thief, one day for the owner.
