El-Rufai has revealed that the administration led by Tinubu is allocating a substantial amount towards fuel subsidy, surpassing previous records.

This disclosure sheds light on the financial strain imposed by subsidies and underscores the need for sustainable energy policies. The revelation prompts discussions on fiscal responsibility and energy management strategies. It also invites scrutiny into the allocation of public funds and calls for transparency in government spending.

The revelation from El-Rufai serves as a catalyst for reevaluating subsidy programs and exploring alternative approaches to energy subsidy management.

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has made a claim that President Bola Tinubu's government is still providing subsidies for fuel, despite the high cost. This contradicts the President's statement during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, where he declared an end to gasoline subsidies.

The presidency has consistently maintained that the government is not spending any money on petrol subsidies. However, El-Rufai, speaking to the media in Maiduguri, stated that fuel subsidies have returned under the Tinubu administration, and the government is now paying even more than previous governments.

He explained that the support measures implemented to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy were ineffective, leading to a reversal of the policy.

El-Rufai expressed his support for the withdrawal of fuel subsidy but highlighted the need for adjustments in its implementation. He also emphasized the importance of policy pragmatism in addressing such issues.
