muyico: insert the thin pipe here most padlocks in nigeria are deliberately low quality and have issues once rainwater falls on them this is because they were deliberately not sprayed with a water displacment agent like wd40 and wd40 is not commonly available so what you get is penetrating oil, which will clear the rust but not stop it it took me several years before i realized this 2 Likes

If you lose your key, just light up a lighter and aim the flame at that hole. Heat it up nicely and the lock will yield. DISCLAIMER: I can not confirm that the above information is true or not. That's what I was told by someone who's supposed to know more than me. Please note that I've never tried the method as I have never lost my key. 2 Likes |

It is called a pin hole or drain hole. The pinhole on your padlock acts as a drain hole. The hole on the bottom of a padlock allows water to drain. This prevents the padlock's internal mechanisms from rusting, so they can continue to function properly.
