A source explained that the incident began when police fired warning shots during a rowdy situation, resulting in a stray bullet hitting one student and injuring two others. Another account suggested that the incident involved alleged cult members, with one reportedly shooting the other.

On social media platform X, @eclat_media247 posted: “All LAUTECH gates locked. Reportedly, a policeman was summoned to break up a fight between two individuals. Instead of resolving it or making arrests, he fired shots into the air, killing one student and injuring two.”

Another user on X confirmed the situation and shared a video, stating, “A man who was celebrating his brother’s graduation at LAUTECH was reportedly shot dead by a police officer. Protests are now taking place on campus.”

It was also mentioned that the involved officer was previously recognized during the EndSARS protests as a key member of the now-disbanded SARS, known for causing trouble in the LAUTECH student community.

Despite ongoing graduation ceremonies at the university, students demanded a pause in the celebrations to focus on addressing the incident.

As of the last update, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, had not responded to attempts to contact him.
