Construction Of Coastal Routes Can Strengthen Naira - David Umahi by Racoon(m): 12:14am On May 03
The Federal Government has hinted that the construction of coastal routes in Nigeria has the potential to attract foreign investment and contribute to a stronger naira.

The Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, gave the hint at the unveiling of the new design routes for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project on Wednesday in Lagos. According to Umahi, the government’s plan to improve infrastructure is ultimately to aim for an economic revolution in Nigeria.

He said, “We talked about our economy, that it needs foreign investments. These roads are going to be constructed with concrete pavements, and it’s CPC+F, which means that there is foreign investment that will come in, and this foreign investment will strengthen and stabilise the naira.

“I’m very happy that the President has directed me to begin the design of one of the spurs linking to this coastal route, and that is the Sokoto-Badagry, which was conceived by the President Shagari administration.

“It’s going to connect the ongoing Lagos-Badagry routes that is being done by the federal government and state government. There is also another route, which is the Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja-Cameroun-African Trans-Sahara route. The coastal routes is also going to connect.

“The Sokoto-Badagry is 1,000 kilometres from the spur of the Trans-Saharan trade routes down to Apo in Abuja, which is 461 kilometres. It means that anyone that is travelling from Sokoto to Lagos will do it in about 10 hours, and travelling from South-East to Abuja will do it in a maximum of about five hours. These are the benefits of the coastal routes.’’

The minister also addressed criticism surrounding who gets credit for developing the coastal routes in Nigeria. He said that some people were upset that President Bola Tinubu was associated with the project, saying, the criticism is misplaced anger and a way to attack Tinubu without understanding the bigger picture.

Umahi said, “Some people are already bitter as to why it should be President Bola Tinubu who is the one to develop these coastal routes, as they will be a lasting legacy for generations to come. That is just their own anger. So, they look for an avenue to attack. But it’s all about darkening counsel without knowledge.’’

He argued that the project’s long-term benefits outweighed political squabbles, which, according to him, will leave a positive impact on future generations.

Furthermore, Umahi explained how the coastal routes, envisioned by Tinubu when he was then governor of Lagos State, would significantly improve the functionality of the Lagos deep seaport.

He said that the coastal routes, which would facilitate trade within Nigeria and potentially boost economic growth, would allow ships to directly access the deep seaport, eliminating the need for expensive transloading due to insufficient water depth.

“And many ships that were paid for transloading right now from Togo, from the way the sea had insufficient water depth, we’re going to be sending them money because this coastal route is going to be an evacuation corridor for that deep seaport.

“So, no more transloading. They go straight to the deep seaport and are offloaded, and you can have your goods. If you’re going to Northern part of Nigeria, you just come straight to Badagry and then now to Sokoto.

“And this Sokoto is cutting across Kebbi, Niger, Kwara and so on and so forth; that of the South-East is cutting across Benue, Kogi and Nassarawa-Enugu-Ogoja routes. These are tough decisions, and these are for economic revolution,’’ Umahi said. (NAN).

sad Just blabbing gibberish! Yours is an import - dependent economy, not producing anything, the naira depreciation against the Dollar is because you are depleting the foreign reserves to subsidized the dollar, investors are leaving your country causing forex flight and all causing weakening of the naira hence the economy.

The clueless government is borrowing here and there to fund this project with humongous debt servicing burden to go with and no assurance of completion because of the institutionalized corruption and lack of accountability and probity

Yet Umahi is yarning trash. This imp has a sawdust for a brain for saying such shitcrap. Now you can know that that the obstinacy of the rudderless, impactless, and directionless APC government to embark on this so called coastal highway construction is simply because they have a sinister intention

Relevant questions Umahi ought to ask include;
-1). Was a proper EIA done for this project?
-2). Were the affected parties duly informed & compensated?
-3). Where will the funds be sourced from and how will it be paid back( given the nation debt burden @ present?),
-4). What is the assurance that it will not end up as another white elephant project( like the economic disaster of an airport he left in Ebonyi state & other FG projects still bestridding the nation?),
-5). And is this project a pressing problem for Nigeria @ present?

This Dave Umahi has made it a devotion to be a chronic asslicker with no iota of sense. He has forgotten this is how the Buhari he overhyped for years ended up being the most useless and corrupt president Nigeria has ever had until the catastrophe he has now shifted attention to prove to Nigerians within one year that Buhari is even a Saint

Let me agree that HE Engr Dave Umahi exaggerated the story but there is no denying the fact that Nigeria will greatly benefit from the Coastal Road project especially cities, villages, towns and states located along the Coastal Road.I will speak directly on the villages and towns in Lagos,Ogun and Ondo State that will benefit from the Coastal Road project

Let me start with Lagos State:
From the Dangote Refinery End of the Coastal Road located in Ibeju Lekki, villages like Ise,Oshorko,Lekki Town,Igbogun will come alive with the Coastal Road
This communities are located very close to Ocean and will further create more opportunities for Investors to locate resorts and hotels, tourist beaches when the project is completed

Ogun State
The project is expected to go through the Ogun Waterside LGA.This community shares boundaries with Ibeju Lekki LGA and the Atlantic Ocean. The whole LGA will see an increment in business opportunities. I call that LGA one of the most hidden secret of tourism in Nigeria
With beautiful beaches, lagoons and waterfront the Coastal Road will bring the much needed investment to that community

Ondo State
It is expected that a bridge will connect the Ogun State End with the Ondo State End,the bridge will make Landfall in a town called Araromi. It is a riverine community home to good aquatic life and also close to the oil producing communities in Ondo State

This project will create thousands of jobs, cut travel time and create massive development in Coastal communities that have been abandoned by their state government, if this is not enough to continue with the project, then I don't know what is

People that can explain this statement better should enlighten us. I tried to google what CPC+F means and it’s engineering related.

Obi's idea of local production is to set up a brewery factory and open a NEXT supermarket where virtually all its goods are imported.

Bringing trading mentality into an economic discussion will always expose the shallow mindset of a typical SE

You forgot to mention opening up Olokola FTZ in Ogun state where LNG multi billion dollars investment is.

I don't know why it's only people from the SE that wants the FG to halt the project..The SS that there resources are being drilled are fully in support, even Atiku, a northerner didn't condemn the project. He only wants due process to be followed.

Okay now compare the response above with the ones below,
You see how weak their brains are, they can't ask any questions since they are incapable of it.

this is what APC and islam reduces your brain to, it will leave your reasoning retarded, just see what adults, people's breadwinner, people that one unfortunate woman carried nine months in pain are saying?
Nigeria is gone under these dogs, not normal dogs ooo, that bingo that you normally see near Dustbin, eating pampers, with exposed ribs and flies.

What does the South of Nigeria truly want?

We lament that a Northerner built roads even into Niger Republic and sited many projects in his region.

Now a Southerner is in power and providing good projects that are not minimalist infrastructure, yet those lamenting the most are the same Southerners who lamented against the Northerner.
