Explosion Occurs In Marina, Lagos

The explosion, which occurred on a ship, left one person severely injured and damaged 5 cars

A gas explosion occurred on a ship while workers were on it in the Marina area of Lagos, on Monday afternoon.

According to a source, the explosion which most likely occurred on a Naval jetty left one person, a worker on the vessel, severely burnt. The worker was rushed to the hospital.

The explosion also threw metal debris which hit about 5 cars in the UBA car park, leaving 3 of them seriously damaged.

Some banks in the area evacuated their staff and boats were also moved away from the scene of the explosion.

As at press time, the fire service had been deployed to the scene.

We lack safety culture in Nigeria. Our response is always after the occurrence of the unfortunate event. it shouldn't be so.

Let's be proactive and so many accident would be averted.

It was an industrial accident. I heard a welder was working on the ship. That is why it is expedient and imperative to put all safety measures in place before embarking on this sort of job especially where there are perceived gas/inflammable substances. The situation was put under control, hence it would have been another nightmare in Lagos

So unfortunate. Hope the guy hasnt died?

yes oh, anyway on the island and lagos generally, theres always either fire-crackers!, aka bangers/ a bus with an exhaust mimicking gunshots or gunshots or heavy machinery from construction!!! how do we even know when we are safe!!!

I WAS ON A BUS TO ADEOLA ODEKU WEN WE HEARD THE EXPLOSION, BUT DIDNT THINK MUCH OF IT, COS EVERYTHING WAS LIKE BUSINESS AS USUAL, AND I GUESSED I'D PROBABLY READ ABOUT IT IN THE NEWS IF IT WAS SERIOUS, BUT I DID SEE A LARGE RISE OF SMOKE IN THE SKY, WOW, CONDOLENCES TO THE VICTIMS SHA, SAFETY PEOPLE!!!

  Im sure this is as a result of lack of industrial safety measures or negligence of necessary safety precautions on the part of someone there. THEN WE ALWAYS REMEMBER:SAFETY FIRST IN ALL WE DO.
