Umo Eno’s poverty ploy, a Testament laid straight by Victor Antai

Few weeks ago, Akwa Ibom was greeted in the morning of Easter by a video of Hon. Victor Antai, condemning the inept attitude of Governor Umo Eno and accusing him of using poverty to weaponise people of the State.

His comment obviously angered the Governor whose boys did a rebuttal, countering the motion of the Executive Director Projects, at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

But weeks after, the State Governor’s body language towards the issue raised by Antai cannot be said to be different. The food he promised to make available to the vulnerable hasn’t arrived, neither have modalities been put in place to help Akwa Ibomites out of the biting dearth of food.

There have been no remarkable efforts to tackle unemployment and nothing substantial has been done to engage our teaming youths resourcefully. The other day, a paltry 400 entrepreneurs were empowered financially, from a whopping population of over 8million thus, representing less than 2% of the entire State population. Isn’t that laughable?

While the State Governor was applauded on the idea of the Ibom Community Watch, it is on record that those recruited into that Vanguard are of Uyo alone. Are there no agile and formidable youths in Ikot Ekpene and Eket Senatorial Districts to join the Community Watch? Yet, employment has not been declared in the State civil service, one year into his administration. How then does he intend to actualize his aim of gainful employment for the youth?

His selfish self was again brought to the fore when he refused to have his recent birthday celebrated in the media. This was clearly an attempt to cripple the activities of newspaper publishers whom he knows make money from such advertorials.

The reports about Governor Eno by insiders isn’t clean either. It would be recalled that Governor Umo Eno was earlier accused of crippling the survival of his supporters. His aides were said to be neglected, uncatered for and forgotten while those who supported his emergence as Governor are said to have been thrown out of the vehicle. This has not changed as many of his aides trek to events and are already looking like a shadow of themselves; no thanks to the Governor’s nonchalance about them. They have become a piece of rag to be used only when needed for rebuttals and thrown out after use. Reports has it that his Chief Press Secretary works with only 5 persons from of the more than 50 aides appointed, while others have become ‘robots’.

“He has become very unapproachable, money-stingy and all-knowing; not wanting anyone’s opinion or idea. He runs the State as one-man business”, one inside source disclosed.

He however would not refuse any opportunity at philandering with the Senate President on expensive receptions staged with the State funds just to go hear him spill cheap talks and unfruitful gossips.

Whoever knows Umo Eno should tell him to stop playing pietism and be a conscientious leader. He should jettison the use and dump mentality approach he’s playing on his aides and pay them their imprests. He should not use them to service his image and abandon them when they have delivered. They deserve to be well-treated and catered for. The amount of money Governor Umo Eno has collected from sources under one year is more than enough to support House of Assembly members, Commissioners and his personal aides with cars, wardrobe allowance and monthly imprests, to say the least.

He should put his house in order before looking outside. Charity they say, begins at home!
