Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has issued a directive for the immediate temporary relocation of the State House of Assembly to the Auditorium, Admin Block of the Government House in Port Harcourt.

This directive is outlined in the official Gazette of the State, known as the Executive Order of the Rivers State Government 001-2023.

The decision to relocate the sitting of the State House of Assembly was made due to concerns raised by the governor regarding the safety of the current House of Assembly complex. Governor Fubara emphasized that the current state of the complex poses a threat to the lives of both the staff and the lawmakers.

This directive comes shortly after a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt granted an interim injunction that restrains the pro-Wike speaker of the state House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 24 other members from acting as legislators. The court's decision was based on an exparte order filed against the pro-Wike lawmakers by pro-Siminialayi Fubara speaker Victor Oko Jumbo and three others.

On this 30th day of October 2023, I, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, in accordance with the authority granted to me by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), hereby declare that all activities and operations of the Rivers State House of Assembly shall be temporarily relocated to the Auditorium, Admin Block, Government House, Port Harcourt.

This decision is made to facilitate the necessary repairs, renovations, or reconstruction of the chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly until they are fully completed.
